There is no need to invent a bicycle again
I mean riding horses was implemented in Dark Age of Camelot. It was simple and very handy.
There were stables all across the realm of DAOC, usually in cities or villages. There were fixed horse routes, to know them you had to obtain map or just try practising. The horse was following the road from A to B, the only thing you could do was to jump off.
So, go to the stable, approach stable-boy, buy a ticket and ride.
Actually you could just buy a horse or rent it for one day in Div for example.
The main idea was: nobody attacks you when you ride, you can attack nobody also.
Critters are just standing there ignoring you as you pass by.
You can't enter any buildings or dungeons on a horse.
That's it.
But. The realm of Camelot was huge. It could took 30-60 minutes to get from A to B on foot.
In Divinity you can use teleports. Teleports solve the problem of fast travelling. Is there really a need for horses? If just for fun?
On second thought. Here is an idea for Div2
- You buy or rent a horse. You can click on a horse to saddle it.
Then you can see animation of character saddling a horse.
- You could fight on a horse, then additional health bar for horse should be shown.
- Looking into your inventory you can see in equipped weapon right slot (shield slot) the bridle. you need at least one hand to hold it, right? So, forget about using two-handed weapons (Elves are natural archers, they could still use their bow riding a horse).
That's what I think about riding horses. The same could be with dragons or any other bigger things. As a part of the plot you could ride an imp, as punishment or maybe imp has resistance to fire and agrees to take you to the other side of that lava river.
Hmm, even more. Horse could have it's own inventory, where you could equip saddles, armour, upgraded hoofs. Horse could even have rear leg attack if positioned with it's back to an enemy. You could also store things in your horse's inventory and just use it as pack horse.
