I am having an interesting problem, I was playing DD on an old 333 Mhz / 32MB graphics PC and the gameplay was acceptable if a little slow at times (saving and loading were definately toilet break times).

I have finally replaced the old PC with a 3.2 Ghz, 256MB graphics monster and now I find that the game runs too fast. Running around is not a problem but combat is terminal, before I have had a chance to do anything I am dead.

I would really appreciate any help, I have the v34 patch an dI have tried to fudge all the settings to slow it down but nothing works.

Thanks

Did you run the configuration program and switch to software more?
Maybe you could pause frequently (space bar) to target enemies, etc until you get used to the faster pace?

I tried all the modes, software was no better. Even with pausing the game is unplayable. It is not really a case of getting used to the speed, more that it is too fast to follow.

One on One combat is ok with a melee weapon, but as a survivor I would like to shoot stuff from a safe distance and this is impossible. If I run away by time I try to stop and shoot Iam well off screen and if I wait for enemies to come to me then by time I see them they are already too close to shoot and run.

If I just bite the bullet and go for melee the speed just takes the entite user experience out of it and just turns the game into a case of CTRL-Clicking until either the monsters are dead or I am, with no option for strategy or running away.

It seems to happen to my dad's computer too!
I got a P3 500mhz,512mb SDRAM,GeForce4 MX440SE 128mb and the game is just fine if i put Graphics performance Medium,otherwise is a bit slow!
Anyway, sometimes the game accelerate at high speed(nothing uncontrollable) for quite a time, its kind of cool...

On my Dad's notebook P4 1.4Ghz,ATI Radeon 7500 the game runs fast(But i still can control the game)! Its just that the battles finish very fast... <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/silly.gif" alt="" />
