You pulled the magic sword out of it´s stone and so released a gret danger to dark forest. This ghost kills all NPC´s in dark forest except for the one who is necessary for the main quest.

Therefore you miss quite a bunch of side quests and a good merchant.
If you have a savegame privious to pulling ot the sword use this one. Otherwise continue, you still we be able to beat the game.
