wow, thats a lot of info!! did you run the divine divinity configuration utility?
make sure that "smoothness" and "alphabit" are checked. maybe use directdraw. play around with it and see what happens.

o yea, i assume you have the patch installed....

I played it on a Windows 98, AMD Duron 900, 512MB PC133, GeForce2MX system, with only occasional slowdowns when there were many trees or NPCs on screen.

The minimum requirements are a "Pentium II 450 MHz or better", so 700 should be sufficient. Did you check for updated video drivers, etc?

There may possibly be another patch to clear up remaining issues, but that would depend on how Beyond Divinity, Divinity 2 and project X go, as to what kind of resources they could spare for it.

You could try doing a clean install and test the performance before installing the patch.

I didn't run into any serious problems with the 1.29 version; Finnigan's magic lockpicks broke on me, but the 1.32 hotfix restored them. Trying the unpatched version would at least let you know if the issue has anything to do with the patch (which must be installed from an account with administrative privileges to be able to update everything it needs to).

oh well..

Ill just bite my tongue an play it neway.. i just wish it ran smoother, and i think i found another glitch.. when i try an quit, and i get the box with the check or X, it doesnt go away when i click on either of them, i have to alt - tab and close that way.

and yes i did a clean install again.

Did you get any errors during the install? There is a file verification method in the topic;

AMD Athlon(tm) Processor, MMX, 3DNow, ~700MHz

MMX *and: 3DNow ? I haven't heard of that before. I thought MMX was incorporated later ... my Athlon Thunderbird 800 Mhz (first breed) doesn't have MMX.

But I don't think this has anything to do with your problem.

By the way : For clarification : How actually shows the game its slowliness ? How do you see it ? Just to know to get closer to what might cause it.

And another one : Please defragment the drive where you have installed. Thank you.

Thanks for the details.

You don't have any background processes running ? Services, for example ?

That "hanging for a second" is to me an indicator of something working in the background.

Nothing in that list of 'errors' looks out of place. Any configuration files will be different, since you likely have different options selected than I did when creating the file. It would appear your problems are not due to a corrupt file.

If you tried the Beyond Divinity demo, and are you getting the same stuttering? Of course, even if the problem is gone in Beyond Divinity, that doesn't help with Divinity.

heh.

ironically, the beyond divinity demo, it still has the same stuttering problems an lag..

Im this close to putting 98 on here.. XP Pro is just a hog when it comes to resources, and i guess its bein mostly used by the os itself.

Oh, for the hell of it, i ran DD.. and alt tabed out.. and looked at my taskmgr(never did this) but div.exe is using 161megs! and my CPU is at 100% im alomst postive this is why its stuttering, cuz the processor is at its max.. now i need to figure out whats wrong.

Could direct 9.0b be the prob? I dont think i have a direct 9 card.. i could try 8

My CPU goes to 100% playing Divinity, which was using 130MB when I just checked.

A couple people have had problems with DirectX 9, though that was with crashing, not performance, that I recall. Beyond Divinity was ported to v9, so I think problems with the demo imply a DirectX conflict is not the issue with Divinity.

Well..

I think i got a tinybit of performance boost.. i went ahead and installed 2000.

But, it still stutters not as often.. but it still lags when im walking through lots of trees.
