First, a keyboard key for selecting all party members is very necessary. For those of us who don't like playing with the pause key, having to hit the little button in the top corner is a pain in the [nocando].
Second, a key that centers (and attaches) the camera to your party, so you don't have to manually move it. Currently, this is a two step process: Select one character, then hit the button again to attach the camera, then select all.
These two keys would make the game much better.
Also, things I would like (but are unrealistic because they'd need a lot more work) would be a mode where your party follows the main character and attacks automatically, so you don't have to worry about him.

Hello+welcome, Charles I'm not sure if I understood you correctly - but you can assign different scripting per char if you use the right click on the portrait => agressive, defensive, normal. So those party members in aggr. mode would attack automatically everyone on sight. But caution, this mode can be dangerous if these chars run into stronger enemies. Or did I misunderstand you? Kiya Camera centered on char => just my personal taste, I know this from Sacred where I couldn't scroll to snoop around and look if I had overseen something by using ALT (TAB in Sacred's case). I prefer the scrolling - and if I have lost my char, I simply click on the portrait, then I'm back again. If you mean having alternatives: scrolling+centering via key control => then I agree. Selecting party/single char via key control => IIRC this was mentioned as a feature for the full version. The key control in the BD demo says: [color:"orange"]TAB for party F1 for member 1 F2 for member 2 => is this what you mean?

Tab brings up the party menu wherever the mouse cursor is, which includes a 'select all' item.

This seems an appropriate place to add some comments along a similar line.
1. I can't stress how important a group-select key-binding is.
2. Targetting is an issue. CTRL helps with enemies but I find it a pain to select between characters with the mouse.
3. The character portraits are in reverse order - the DK is shown on the left but he is character number two. I know that is pedantic but it's counter-intuitive to press F1 for the second character and F2 for the first (it can be re-mapped but it shouldn't be necessary. ).
4. I would *really* appreciate some sort of formation control. My guess is a lot of players will have one char as tank and the other a wizard / survivor / ranged char. The current movement system has both characters moving in parallel - I would really appreciate the weaker char staying behind the "lead" char without having to micro-manage every battle.
These additions would really improve my impression.

That's gonna get tricky cause i've noticed some enemies continue to chase the weakest one (wizzard in my case), kind of funny to see some enemy running after my wizzard with DK chasing him aswell, makes the game kinda... uh.. sporty

kiya: I know about the tab option, but I want one key that doesn't require me to use the mouse. If I wanted to use the mouse, I'd use the icon in the top right corner. I want to use the mouse for clicking on enemies and items, not for manipulating the interface. I should be able to have a quickkey (say, caps lock, or tilde) which immediately selects all characters, and then I should have another key that snaps the camera on to them.
I'm not saying you shouldn't have a free camera, I like it as well. But I don't want to have to manually move it all the time.
Normal or Aggressive doesn't do what I want. It doesn't make the character follow you. He'll just stand there unless you move him manually. That annoys me and it will greatly hinder my appreciation of the game. Which is sad, cause I think Divine Divinity is one of the best games made in a very long time, and I was hoping that BD would be even better.

Charles, You can have a "sticky" camera. There are several ways, such as: - Hold the mouse button and move it, the character will move to the pointer and the camera will follow - Click twice on the character's icon - Press twice the corresponding F# key.
Hope it helps, -Baz.

Yes, I know that, but it doesn't work properly with select all, is what I'm saying. Right now what should be a one step process is a three or four step process.

Update: I see that if you hold the mouse and drag it, it will snap the camera. This is okay, but I still wish for a button so that I can scroll the map somewhere, and then click on an area, and then snap the camera back to them.

Ah, you mean to be able to snap the camera while having the 2 characters selected?
Personally I don't really like the snapped camera but it's a good idea since many people like it. It'll probably be in the full game since Lar said they're adding shortcuts.
Cheers, -Baz.

Lar has already said they would address the first 2 points; To be honest, we're pretty surprised about the reactions on the combat system - we actually thought most of you were going to prefer it over Divine Divinity's combat system. But you do need the pause key. If you play it without, life sometimes becomes very complex in BD. As for the combats themselves, remember, you only get the beginning of a very large game in the demo, and the first levels serve the purpose of familiarizing you with the controls.
We have picked up on your comments, and here's what I promise we'll address:
Targeting - non trivial, but we'll think of something. It's true that select all/ctrl is something that should be in.
Hotkeys - we'll add more (I do want to point out that you can recenter on an active partymember by pressing F1 or F2 twice, and select the leader by pressing it once)
Explaining:A lot of the comments I read here are actually already addressed in the game, but those features are apparently not clear enough. I don't know exactly how we'll explain, given the sheer amount of features, but we'll try to think of something.
Please keep the feedback coming, we are listening.
Thanks [color:"orange"]3. The character portraits are in reverse order - the DK is shown on the left but he is character number two. Actually, that makes sense for having the portraits in the top right corner. Remember, you can have summoning dolls that show up and are controlable just like your main characters. I would much rather number the characters from right to left and have new icons temporarily show up on the left, than number them from left to right and have to move the hero/DK portraits over every time a summoning doll is used. [color:"orange"]4. I would *really* appreciate some sort of formation control. Agreed. Its not a big deal, but I was planning on making my hero an archer, and would prefer he stay behind the DK. When it comes to battles, though, the enemy AI has been improved, so simply placing one character closer doesn't guarantee they will become the target. Default formations will certainly help, but will not eliminate the need for strategic relocations.

Move your mini-map away from the edge of the screen, so you can at least see 1 pixel of background around it. Even with your mini-map in the corner, you should still be able to scroll in those directions moving your cursor to the edge, but avoiding the map.
