Well I've talked to a number of friends who don't visit the board but love Divinity. Their main problem with the game oddly enough has been the skill/spell system, and I now realize they have a good point. Early on, you have to choose what to spend your skill points on, before you've really even seen more than 2 weapons. Warrior for example. How do you know if you want to use a 1 handed or 2 handed weapon that early in the game?

To quote one of my friends:
"yeah, having to choose weapons to specialize in sucks" "it reduces the wisdom of the game later on when you can't use such and such wise weapon you just found cause you spent all your points on some other type of weapon"

Well yes and no !

don't forget that you can dislearn skills to get back your point. It will cost you money though.

Excellent, I was not aware you could buy back skill points. That's great.

I love that feature. How much does it cost anyway?

You can? I did not know this. This is one major league plus point in my book. Damm if this keeps up I'll have to buy 2 copies of the game.

Not in the mood for cheese?

It depends on your character level how much it costs to unlearn a skill, increasing as the square of the level;

Cost = (200 / 3) * L^2 [color:"#3A495A"].......[/color](rounded down, if necessary)

At level 2 the cost is 266 gold, at level 50 it would be 167K gold; this is a steep, but reasonable price. I wouldn't want to change a mage into an archer this way, but for a couple of skills it is certainly doable, assuming the availability of gold and loot was not drastically cut back from Divinity (even then, there are battlefields you can use to get loot).

This is based on just 3 levels (only got to level 4 in the demo), so there could be a cap at some point, or it could go up faster at higher levels.

I knew you could dislearn skills, but I never new what it would cost to dislearn it. So another mystery solved <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/smile.gif" alt="" />

If you select a skill and click on the 'unlearn' icon, it will pop up a message saying how much gold it would take to do so.

Woah! That's amazing! Not only you would always need cash but you can transform one character into another!
Excellent idea...

But Dorito: Games like Baldur's Gate had you chosing the weapon specialisation even before the game begun. Honestly, I don't see that as a problem. Sorry.

Baldur's Gate is complete and utter crap, as are all Bioware pseudo-RPGs.

lol. yes, Bauldors Gate 2 seems to be a game almost everyone considers a rpg,
even people who don't play rpg's when asked of a rpg say BG 2. (or 1)

Most people don't realize what an RPG is. What an RPG definitely isn't is a linear adventure game dumbed down for the masses (see also: All Bioware so-called RPG's). Ultima 5 is a good example of a True RPG as well as a few of the other Ultima's. The main reason I loved Divinity was that it wasn't the linear crap with every quest glaring at you in pink neon flashing lights saying "LOOK OVER HERE".

I also find it hilarious that people consider KOTOR an rpg. That's about as far from an RPG as possible and still be called RPG.

KOTOR looks like kind of adventure game rather than RPG for me, tough it's a cool game.

I also expect a real RPG to be somewhat of a challenge at least. KOTOR almost plays itself.
