Hi! Just started playing yesterday and I'm having a blast. Just a quick question that I couldn't find an answer to by searching. Roaming around the healer's village I am finding a lot of books and manuscripts. Is there any point to collecting these? Should I just read them and leave them where I found them or do I need to grab them and take them with me? Will they be useful for something later or are they just window dressing?

Thanks

Some books/manuscripts contain useful information, or just add to the atmosphere, though I generally read them and left them where they were. Some people collect them. If someone gives you a book (through a speech option) or there is something special about it, then keep it.

some of the books are useful and some are needed. but most of them are not needed at all. so i just leave most of them where they are.

THe most ones are actually fun to read ... if you've managed it to the "Easter Egg Area", then you'll find some books in German - the Forum here contains a Link to a translation once made by me.

Ha!
I wondered when I found that book if the German version of the game had the books written in English.

No. They are all in German, because there was no way to translate them - too much money, as far as I know.

What are the pieces of paper with pictures and runic writing on them? For instance I found one last night with what looks like an elven archer. Anything special or just more window dressing?

Virtually all the books just contain info with regard to the story or journals which act as a king of "beware this happened to me" element. However some are just there for humour, or to provide an explanation behind something in the game, e.g the magic mirror book etc.

The Runes can be translated. In the Tips 'n' Tricks area there should be some information about them. Please try the Search function !

Unless its a spell book - meaning you click on it and pick it up and there's a spell on the cover - you click it and learn the spell, then they are just extra weight you don't need to carry, in my opinion. I read them, look at the pictures and close the window, leaving them where they are. They serve no purpose in the game that I know of. Reading them can be interesting, as sometimes you find clues in the game. Most of the time its nonsense though.

I like the military essays about the three types of sword masters.
The lion one is good too and the mating of dragons.....
The liard one was nice were he has to leave society for a quiet life in the dark forest.
