FSAA

The gain with the 3D models is that now your armour is identical to that in your inventory. I find this a huge advantige and makes me forget about the quality drop in <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/beyond.gif" alt="" /> . If I had to chose between 2D sprites or the 3D models I would also chose the models.
