Happens all the time around here.

I kinda agree with copyright laws BUT I also think we are waaaaayyy overcharged for the work of the artists in question.

well many artist not all, underground artist sell their products much cheaper, A CD for instance from Metallica would cost around 22, a CD of most underground bands, 14.

Yeah. I've gotten a lot of CD's from gigs I've been to for 5 bucks. What costs could possible justify selling a CD for 22??

The profits of the record labels.
What else?
About 3% I think it was of the total price of a CD will go to the artist. All the rest is for record labels, producers,... and their "costs".

And rather than dropping their profit marge they trow artists out.
Ask Michael Jackson and a lot of Belgian Flemish singers. They know all about that these days.

besides, due to the copying prices keep going up. ok, before the copying really kicked in, the prices were WAAAYYY to high as well, but a few years ago, you could buy a game for say 35-40 euro's, while now it's closer to 50

yeah, and it sux.
but were the only ones to blame for it (we= the gamers, not anyone specific)...
i hope there will be better protection against it, but i think there will always be found a way to crack it

As long as you have to be able to 'copy' (read= produce ) your own product, there's an opening for this, sad enough...

You should know this:

The real value of a copying device is much lower than it's market price, the extra money you payed for your device goes to copy right and such organisations, like say cd-rw goes to research for new technology that could prevent copying games, music etc..., lasercopier, go to the organisation in charge of the rights of book writers etc...

Same goes for the mediums, the price for a CD-RW disc is much lower than it's market prize, so everytime you buy such CD's you countribute to the research...

or so i've read/been told.

me too.
i know the price is higher than it has to be, but i think there are other reasons for that then research (like profit etc )

Indeed.
Most of your money will flow into the deep pockets of the company.
You have to see who's telling those tails about research and other noble deeds. It's one of the typical favorite stories of the managers of companies.
