*puts a bottle of Bailey's on the table*

Anyone wants a glass ?

I remember the last bill I got after a Bailey's night at the "Irish Pub" in Berlin at New Year's Eve 1999/2000... the keeper wrote 3*PI... and I don't know what my friends paid while I was singing some song with a transvestite who started playing piano at 10am... lalalala... lalala...

"As the old gnu in the zoo heard, Bailey's doesn't hurt...."

I remember the last confrontation with Ouzo. I was sixteen or seventeen, and it was on a Christmas Party, or better a Party in the Christmastime .
I remember the fifth Glas of Ouzo (and i mean waterglases not a 0,2cl Liquorglas) and several Beer (Ok, some Vodka i can remember too, but this was at the time i lost my memorys).
Anyway, after this "Party" i was the next three days sick, really sick. Not an alcoholic poisoning (maybe it was still one, but i dont must in a Hospital), but really sick.
This was the last (and first ) Time i drink so much. Hard lesson, but i get it
After some Years i made my peace with Ouzo, and today i drink sometimes one, or two glass (The little 0,2cl glas, not waterglasses ) and i like the flavour.

By the way, in germany we called the little glasses (o,2cl) "Schnapsglas", i try to translate this but i failed, can someone say the english term for this?

Rum? Well, all roads leads to rum... No that was Rome...

Anyway, I know the name in Swedish, Stone . In Sweden they're called Snapsglas, and what you drink in them is called Snaps (glas=glass. You wouldn't have guessed that you, would you? ). And you allso sing Snapsvisor (visa= some kind of song). Luckilly my father doesn't do this .

I got really drunk for the very first and only time when I was in the army. They always said to me, in the army you'll learn to drink. Well, I did drink, but only that one time. Porto was very cheap, less then 0,74€. And we all put our money together, making a pot and I had to keep the money. But every round, I think I had two porto's per round (a glass of Porto is smaller then a glass of beer), I was a faster drinker then the rest of the guys. So, everything past that seventh porto is kind a blur to me
Lucky for me, I wasn't sick, no headaches and a wonderfull husband that protected me from unwanted company.
After that I never lost control again. Whenever I drink, I stop from the minute it gets lighter in the head.

Back on topic now, when is my shift over? Those costumers never stop coming

I never got drunk, but yet I know how this feeling is.

I have once posted a link towards a phenomenon (what a word !) called HSP (highly sensitive persons). They are able to sense much more than others do.

Me, for example, any time I drive drunk relatives from a family birthday home, I get to know how this feling is. It might sound strange or evn unbelievable to you, but any time I'm near drunk people I get dizzy, too. The more drunk, the more I feel it.

I've never understood why it happens to me (still don't), but I take it as it is : a strange gift.

@ Elgi raki is worse What are you trying to do to Ube?

@ Stone
You never -I mean never- mix ouzo with other drinks. Makes the hangover even worse You can add some ice if you want and do not be scared if it changes colour. It is better with ice.
The glasses you mentioned here are called "rakopotira". We ususaly drink raki in them. There are other special glasses for ouzo. Try sometime to drink ouzo with sea food. It is the best way to enjoy it.

@Al Balleys is what I drink right now. Mixed with well shaked instant coffee, sugar, cold water and ice. Really tasty! Could we have the link of the thread you mentioned?

... but ouzo is not a liquer You would be surprised to see how it is made.
As for ice in wine... hm... I must agree with Dragh. This is evil

both are evil...

Doing Ice in Beer is more evil And dont worry, i dont drink much Wine, i saved my Ice for the Caipirinhas ... Sommertime ...

Edit
Luc, yes Liqueur is not the right term (i know this after a short search in my translationsite). In Germany we say shortly to all hard Stuff "Schnapps".
This can mean Fruit Brandy, Whisky, Vodka and Ouzo and ...
But if i remember right in the USA they will call the Shops with the hard stuff "Liqueurshops" or i´m wrong here? And i dont found an other Word what mean all the different sorts.

And Ok, it is evil to do ice in wine, but it is funny to told this to a Winedrinker

Ah yes you are right. We have it the other way around here as far as liquers are concerned. We use it for "soft", sweet drinks. And Schnaps is called here a "soft" fruits flavoured drink. Sorry for the misunderstanding.

I never drink beer with ice, just because i don't drink beer.
I don't like beer.
And I don't like the men who drink too much beer because they have a big stomach.

@ Elgi raki is worse What are you trying to do to Ube?

Well, to get him drunk and then laugh at him when he does silly things of course.

Btw, I think that ouzo and raki are similarly terrible. Even if raki was first and the Greeks just copied it with ouzo... as they did with gyros (döner)... or tzaziki (cacik)... or sirtaki (halay)...

I am not sure that I follow you there Elgi.
Raki has diffrent ingredients than ouzo. And different taste. However they are both very strong. I really do not get what you mean with "copied". Gyros, and tzatziki are not Greek. Although all people that come to Greece want to taste it. Well I tell you one thing : souvlaki is a BIG misunderstanding. It is not Greek at all. Raki and ouzo is another story.
