i don't know if this topic has been here before....but aniway.......how about learning each other's language....it could be an idea.....that way we can all learn a bit of foreign language........everybody should start with basic words though.......i'll give an example in leaning some dutch words.......just basic stuff......

from dutch to english:

Ik = i, me
jij = you
wij = we
hun = they
zij = they

etc..well it's just an idea....

But... whats about the correct pronunciation? Think, we shouldn't forget this point.

Ok, i start with english - german! (if you want to know special words just say it.

I, me = Ich, mich (speak the "i" like in "if")
you = Du, Ihr (the "u" like in "trough" , "i" = "if")
we = wir (like the term "we're")
they = sie (just like the word "sea")
he/she/it = er / sie / es

And now (always) the best sentence in a foreign language:

I don't speak german. = Ich spreche nicht Deutsch.

i think i was one of the worst in my class........the french teacher was always mad at me for some reason.........je ne sais pas....yep got often detention from my french teacher........c'est encredible (i can't spell in french )

1st lesson : 2 verbes auxiliaires être et avoir

Etre = to be
Avoir = to have

Etre au présent de l'indicatif :

Je suis = i am
tu es = you are
Il/elle est = he/she is
Nous sommes = we are
Vous êtes = you are
Ils/elles sont = they are

Avoir au présent de l'indicatif :

J'ai = i have
Tu as = you have
Il/elle a = he/she has
Nous avons = we have
Vous avez = you have
Ils/elles ont = they have

Exemples :

Mon personnage est un guerrier = my character is a warrior (male character)
Mon personnage est une guerrière = my character is a warrior (female character)

J'ai une armure du dragon = i have a dragon armor

Specially for Lews :

"free" can be translated by "libre" or "gratuit/gratuite".
When go out from the prison, you say : "je suis libre"
If you don't have to pay for a beer, you say : "ma bière est gratuite".

I dunno if that's right, but to me it reads as: I am a Sauce! as Hollandaise is a type of luxurious warm mayonaise <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/smile.gif" alt="" />

But I do seem to remember from posting in Europe that Holland was often reffered to in French as Pays-Bas, so maybe it should be somewhere along the line "J'avec de Pays Bas" ?

About "Pays Bas" : Bas I think should be low lying lands - and the Netherlands are called "Nederlande" - GErman Niederlande - meaning lands that ly (geographically) low.

In Spanish, país (I think) is the country).

As you are a male, you don't have to write a "e" at the end of the words.
A male says : "je suis ignorant"
A female says : "je suis ignorante"


The same mistake : "je suis un hollandais".

"Voyons" is linked to the verb "voir" (to see).
It is a verb of the 3rd group (the most difficult group).

Voir au présent de l'indicatif :

Je vois = i see
Tu vois = you see
Il/elle voit = he/she sees

Vous voyez = you see
Ils/elles voient = they see

Exemples :
Nous voyons les oiseaux dans le ciel = we see the birds in the sky.

The right spelling is "Monseigneur".
This word really means "Mon seigneur" like in english "Mylord" or "Mylady".

No, "la sauce hollandaise" is not a kind of mayonnaise.
The only common point is the yellow color because of the egg.
"la mayonnaise" is cold.
To do a good mayonaise you need : some mustard, the yellow of one egg, salt, pepper.
You mix these ingredients, then you slowly add some oil as you continue mixing very fast.
Mayonnaise must be thick, it should not run.

"la sauce hollandaise" is made with butter, yellow of the egg, lemmon juice and probably something else.
This sauce as to be warmed on the fire, it is used with boiled fish, like "le turbot sauce hollandaise" (very good food !).


Yes we use the name "Pays-Bas" because a part of the land in this country is under the level of the see.
