On several forums here, in Estonia, instead of post count, we have something like "respect" count represented as stars. On the scale from +8 to -4 or so.
So, respect is earned through actions. Every member, who reached 4 or 5 stars can give out respect points to other members. 10 respect points will give you a star (maybe less I am not sure).
When some [nocando] head comes and starts offending peeps, he gathers negative points and after gathering -4 stars a lamb appears under his ava. He is not respected, he is a lamb. He is banned if collects even more - points.
Sure, this has nothing to do with design, but still I liked the idea.
Edited: Sorry, forgot to add, you become a member and automatically get two stars.
