Ok, the solution was that I needed to copy some files of the motherboard drivers cd onto a floppy disk and then when windows XP installation first starts up push F6 and isntall the drivers. Now I have windows installed but how do I get the computer to boot from the hard disk? What boot device do I select as the primary boot device in BIOS for a SATA drive (SATA isnt one of the options) SCSI maybe? Any SATA owners out there who know?

These are exactly the things written in the ASUS FAQs! <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/winkwink.gif" alt="" />

Maybe this will help:

[color:"yellow"]Load Onboard ATA BIOS / Onboard ATA Device = "Auto" or "Enable"
SCSI / ATA100 Boot Sequence = "ATA 100 / SCSI" [color:"red"]( ATA100 before SCSI )
[color:"yellow"]Other Boot Device = "Onboard ATA Boot Device / SCSI"

Boot Sequence: [color:"yellow"]"Other Boot Device" [color:"red"]before [color:"yellow"]"IDE Hard Drive"!

Example:

1. Removable Device
2. ATAPI CDROM
3. [color:"yellow"]Other Boot Device Onboard ATA Boot Device / SCSI
4. IDE Hard Drive

The cables from the Motherboard to the HD, are they correctly plugged in ? I hope so. <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/winkwink.gif" alt="" />

Actually I just set em all to HDD-0 and it seems to find my HDD by default now <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/smile.gif" alt="" />

Yay!

New prob. For some reason my Athlon XP 3000 is only running at 2.16 ghz. I wonder why?

I think Athalons use faster chips than Pentiums. An Athalon 3000 and a Pentium 3GHz have the same resulting speed, but the Athalon only runs at about 70% of the clock rate. The Athalon uses slower chips that are more efficient.

My Athalon 1800 has a clock speed of 1.15GHz, but it runs like a 1.8GHz machine.

OWW!!! <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/cry.gif" alt="" /> <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/silly.gif" alt="" />

yes, so AMD is winning, with a FX-F3, better then the Pentium 4, 3.4 extreme edition.

but yes, i always take the athlod card, and put it into ghz.

3000=3
3400=3.4
25=2.5
etc

and you can get a AMD 3200 (think 3.2) for the price of a Pentium 3 ghz!!!

thats .2 (not alot but even so) ghz more for free!

WOULD YOU STOP YOUR DAMN KICKING?!?!?!?!?!? <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/silly.gif" alt="" />

One thing though, I think the Athalon uses significantly more power, despite it's slower clock speed. I know it produces a lot more heat.

I think that for my next PC I'm switching back to Intel

for those who live with four seasons, maybe u want to install your computers like a window unit air conditioner & have the cold winter help supercool it. <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/tongue.gif" alt="" /> heck, save your heating bills & use your athlons to heat up the house. <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/delight.gif" alt="" />

for those who aren't confortable with AMD processors in the sense that u don't know how to optimise performance without blowing up your processor & also not knowing how to cool your system down, then just stick to intel. of course, u have to pay extra for the same performance when it comes to intel.

extra info: for those who use western digital hard disk drive; that brand can be quite a nocando when it comes to configuration. otherwise the performance is good. take note of which part of the IDE cable u connect that hard disk to & the pin setting u have on it.

I and some friends here take this discussion recently, Athlon indications of models - 3.000+ has only 2.16 ghz and a pentium IV HT 3.0 has the 3GHZ - and the two got the same performance or not.

We had compared some tests and the pentium IV was winning - now if the processor is an Athlon FX what with sure will win cause of the hypertransport technology and the way what it handle with the memories.

AMD and INTEL are talking about new sockets with more pins - if i'm not wrong the intel socket and amd will up to 948 or something similar i don't remember the correct valor now - but these new motherboards will have a salt price, like of everything what is new.

And i liked of this new smile - <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/ROFL.gif" alt="" /> <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/ROFL.gif" alt="" /> <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/ROFL.gif" alt="" /> hahahahhahha.....

Thats because speed isn't everything in a processor. AMD uses a rating (intel will start with it too soon) that basicly says "This AMD altough on a lower speed has the same proformence then a intel with 3GHz". You can say that AMD has a lower speed but uses it better while Intel has a high speed but doesn't use it as efficiently as AMD

Hasn't AMD published some tools for reducing ... things with the processor ... (how do I decribe power modes ???)

I mean , setting the processor tio sleep so that it dioesn't produce that high amount of heat anymore (sometimes I just stumble upon my own words ... <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/memad.gif" alt="" />)

put it this way; what AMD acheived in lower speed when compared with Intel is crudely analogous to a smart worker that works smarter & yield more or better output although on the same timeframe.

whatever the two want to do to improve the technology, end-users like us win big time. <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/up.gif" alt="" />

Now... Do I, or do I not admit to actually using this technique... <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/shame.gif" alt="" />

My last house was very cold in Winter. It was somehow colder inside than outside first thing in the morning!

*Warms everyone with the heat of my CPU* Not that it runs hot or anything. Anyone want to defrost something on my heat sink?

Are you overclocking yours Mea? I have left mine alone becuase I read that the 3000 isnt the best of chips for overclocking. Besides I dont want to fry it, I just got it <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/winkwink.gif" alt="" />
