Ok, I installed this game resentally on my new hardrive, thinking i could do marathon's of saves now. I have a VERY good file going, 6 potions, abunch of new weapons, 34 gold, and a spellbook of elemtental strike all in Aleroth with no XP yet!!! all voices work such as "hello. my name is Joram and your at my house in Aleroth" and "SHELOI! Mardeneus, my poor old friend" and "I can't use that". But no music, no animal sounds, no sounds when i pick something up!


Whats happening!? and more importently, what can I do???

Do you get a sound effect sample when changing the volume in the options? Did you try backing up your save games and un-install / re-install?

build in sound card. direct X 9, or 8.1 not sure which.

In Windows Explorer, browse to the '..\Divine Divinity\Run\savegames' folder. There you can either move or copy the save game folders to another location. Alternately, you should be able to right click and select something to compress the folder(s); the menu option will contain something like zip, archive or compress. IIRC, Windows XP has a 'right click | Sent To | compressed folder' option to zip.

The easiest way to update sound and video drivers is to go to http://windowsupdate.microsoft.com/. It'll automatically detect which drivers suit your computer.

a CRC or somethin' file is not working when I'm 74% done loading. on third disk <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/suspicion.gif" alt="" /> this has happened all 3 times I have installed it lately. and it is on a sound file .rar.

Check your play disk for dust, fingerprints or scratches. If it worked before in the same drive, then there is something interfering with it now. Make sure all background programs are shut down, as well.

Look at the manual install procedure in the troubleshooting post. You should only have to try manually extracting the file you get the CRC error on (it sounds like the install keeps going after the error). Even with the full manual install, it is basically just extracting a few files to a couple folders.

edit, one HUGE bloob on the disk, and several scratches. I SWEAR I have NO idea were it came from! <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/eek.gif" alt="" />

NOW! I can, yesssssss, play it without having to go to the extreme. <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/rolleyes.gif" alt="" /> i really didn't want to buy another copy of the game.
