Looks like my character is buggered. Here is my problem:

1. I am entering the Dark Forest for the first time, and the automap is already filled in – all green, as if I have walked every single inch of it. But all the monsters are still there, as if I haven’t
2. I am not able to save the game when I’m in the Dark Forest.
3. There is no holy amulet in the underground vault – I know it should be there from playing with another character.
4. When I approach the sword in the stone, the game simply hangs up – the minimap disappears and that’s it.
5. Probably the most important After about ten minutes, a message appears saying something like: “Divine Divinity found an error, the scene that should be happening now isn’t happening and you can’t save. Please exit and restart from previous savegame”.

My latest savegame in which this isn’t happening is when I’ve just met Zandalor. But it is such a shame to go that far back – I am now level 28 and have defeated the succubus!

And even if I restart the game – how will I know at which point it happens? I can’t even think what could have triggered this effect… apart from this…

Yesterday I tried to download a patch for reviving dead NPCs from here:

http://www.larian.com/Site/english/divinity/fix.html

The file is called DivPatch_English.exe

I was downloading it for about 20 minutes but didn’t finish because it was downloading into Windows and I didn’t like it. I found a folder “AddPatch” or something like that in my Windows folder and deleted it.

Is there any way to fix this problem? Any help would be appreciated!

Thanks,
Alana

PS If somebody replies to this post how will I know about it? Will I receive a note in my mailbox of do I have to log in here from time to time?

[color:"orange"]1. I am entering the Dark Forest for the first time, and the automap is already filled in

A couple people have run into this. See; Revealing maps

[color:"orange"]2. I am not able to save the game when I’m in the Dark Forest.

The game disables saving during cut scenes, so perhaps it thinks you are in the middle of one?

Try deleting all of the files in the '..\Divine Divinity\Run\Dynamic' folder. After this load a save before you had been to the Dark Forest and see if you have the same problem.
This folder is used as a cache for the game. Files are created / copied there from the save game folder when you load, and written / copied from that folder when you save a game. The files will be re-created as required the next time you start Divinity. If there was a corrupt file in that folder, deleting the files should fix the problem.

[color:"orange"]3. There is no holy amulet in the underground vault – I know it should be there from playing with another character.

Did you hit the alt key to try to find it amongst the spider webs? A couple people have had the inventory files carried over from one game to the next, likely due to a corrupt file in the dynamics folder. That shouldn't just effect one item, though.

You can get another amulet;
Lost Items - guide and directory of inventory files

[color:"orange"]4. When I approach the sword in the stone, the game simply hangs up – the minimap disappears and that’s it.

Strange. Try running the configuration program and switching to software mode.

[color:"orange"]5. Probably the most important After about ten minutes, a message appears saying something like

The game definitely thinks you are in the middle of a cut scene.

[color:"orange"]Yesterday I tried to download a patch for reviving dead NPCs from here:

The patch fixes a few bugs and makes a few changes, but it is not related to the procedure for reviving dead NPCs. The 10MB patch should download to wherever you told your browser to save it. After running it, the patch updates the game (getting the path from the registry), and should not create any files elsewhere (except maybe the windows temp folder, as most install programs do).

Try a clean re-install + patch of the game (see below), after backing up your saved games (just in case). Without a recent working save you could be in trouble if that doesn't help.
