The one I like best is not in the list

That's Gothic I and II. So I had to vote for the second best.

(btw: It's "Baldur's Gate" and "Neverwinter Nights")

I tend to say "none of the above" (of your options)

If you wish to rephrase your question to "which of these do you find best", I will consider voting

I'd have to add Bethesda's The Elder Scrolls line (Arena, Daggerfall, & Morrowind). There's also Fallout and Planescape: Torment. I prefer single PCs instead of groups.

i mainly made this post because i am going to buy another RPG and i don't know if i should get Diablo 2 or Neverwinter Nights. i had to make a connection to somehow. this was the only way i could do that. so i would appreciate it if you peoples could tell me which one to get. thanks in advance.

BTW: i would have posted it in the "Chat RPG" area but my school has blocked that page because it is a "chat room".

If your choice then is D2 or NWN - I vote for Never Winter Nights

Although I have not played it(can't find a copy) I have been told the best CRPG is Planescape: Torment.

PS Torment can be found in ebay - but they are, few, sought after, and therefor not cheap - but worthwile trying!

You are all such newbies to rpg. I long for the
days when In school we played D&D with a Dungeon
master. Our dies (read dice only one used)
had 2,4,5,6,8, 10, 15, 25, 50, 100 sides to them.
Aint plastic wonderful. We even dressed up like
our characters. Got them from a costume maker.
How ever in keeping with the sprit of rpg and
technology. ALL rpg's are based on the standard
D&D rules. So that said Oldies but goodies
From the FORGOTTEN RELMS SERIES.
Eye of the Beholder 1 2 and 3.
One- is some what hard. Two- Marvelous a classic.
Three- good game TRY TO KILL THE GIANT LOL
it will take you at least 20 to 30 tries.
I couldnt do it under 50 tries. And you
will love to figure out how to kill the
baslick with out getting shot at your self.

Pools of Radience: good classic
As a side note: you will marvel at the animation
possible with 20 year old programming code.
(all hexidecimal)

For single player rpg ( more if you want )
Jeff Vogel's Series. I think he changed the titles
to atrium. But not sure. If you want a very
hard game try the original Zork series.
All words no pictures LOL.

I have played some the games you mentioned in
your list. Most are a shoot em up kill on sight
type. bUT i will vote for at least one.

FYI: Divine divinity out ranks those by miles.
IMHO!

Thankfully my group never considered going that far when we played (about 10 years ago now)...we had already gotten into trouble back in school that time because some of the more shall we say religious teachers we had got wind of the RPG club I ran and was convinced it was a new cult!!!

Apparently it was over heard in the halls of the school that one of my players was describing a scenario where someone was being scarficed!

I got an angry letter telling me I better explain my actions!

So with Rolemaster and Call of Cthulhu books in hand I marched into the principles office for 2 hours explaining the rules!!!!!!

Thankfully he didn't want to play...

Catholic school?

Surprisingly no! It was just a normal college, but it was the religion teacher who sparked off the witch hunt.

She also didn't appreciate us all hanging the crosses upside down before she came into the class!

Definitively RPG Chat.

My "RPG career" began very late - with Lands of Lore I and the Realms of Arcania (German Version).

Currently I'm digging out older games, to get to know that feeling.

Our group started when a friend of ours ( spring break )at
MICHIGAM U WAS PLAYING, about 1963 or 64. I think
somewhere in the 1990's The HOLY SEE of the catholic church
condemmed the game. What i like about this game is you have
to look very closely at your stats and the item stats,
Just like Arcanium. And eye of beholder series.

dudes, all your past recollections are funny. alrik, u should documetn these & put them in some kind of offbeat history of RPGs, starting from some caveman trying to be who he's not. therefore role-play.
