1. Sorry, if you do apply the Patchm, then you cannot use the savegames you have created until now anymore.
2. It *is* possible to complete the game without the Patch, but difficult. There are severe "Quest-Breakers" in the game, and you should read here, then, to avoid these.
Good Luck ! <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/smile.gif" alt="" />

Yes, you can keep playing with the same saves after installing the patch. Some of the story fixes are not retroactive, but you will still benefit from the extra quick saves, technical fixes, etc. I would definitely recommend installing it. I only ran into minor problems before I patched the game (a certain magical item someone asks you to steal in Verdistis is breakable before the patch, and it is very handy to keep). I completed my game under the 1.34 patch, started with the original 1.29 version. Welcome to the forum. <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/wave.gif" alt="" />

Well, i installed both patches on my german version and i cant load old savegames. (Version 0.99a-something). Is there any way to export the character or convert the savegames because i already played like 48 hours and i dont want to do all the stuff again, really.

Hybris, there is no way to transport your version saves, sorry. I played the [color:"yellow"]German version, too. It came out under 1.00 and so these saves from 099 are not compatible to the first fix. This is the reason why [color:"yellow"]German gamers have to download 2 patches => one bringing the game to 1.00 and then the current patch additionally. Kiya http://www.kiya1.de/images/versuch.html#izakaronhere is a link to a Editor, allowing you to assign skill pts - I don't know, if this will help. Edit: Hope the yellow colour will help to avoid patch confusion now.

Freaker, READ carefully, please! This is about the GERMAN version. Hybris has the German version <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/rolleyes.gif" alt="" />
You have the English one, right? The English one came out in a version higher than 1.00, so it does not apply to your case.

I can only give you a definite info about the German version (in German language) and the English one (in English language).
Freaker, look at your main screen, please, where you load, save etc => the bottom right corner shows a version. If you have nothing there => it's a version under 1.00. Kiya <still wheezing>

Give me wisdom, patience, chocolate (this helps everytime) - a hanging mat? No, on 2nd thought no mat, fell out of it (though it calms down) - a nice hot cappucchino and Maraschino Cherries. Since Barnie is no longer here, I don't get this <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/puppyeyes.gif" alt="" /> Thanks, Glance - giving a Death Dragon a hug might be a ... I got wisdom and chocalate, if somebody else has the rest... Is it my fellow Death Dragon? Arrgh, there needs to be more! The lairs are getting pretty dead. Kiya, keeps biting the head off my teddy bear on accident! <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/rolleyes.gif" alt="" />
Is it just me or is the title of this thread implying "why do I need to patch"? Er, just to awnser. Its a good idea!

Just a question, what is the worse thing that can happen to me if I doesn't patch? Are there any main quest that I can't complete without it? Or does it only affect optional quests? If that's so, how many optional quest will be "unincompleteable"? Does the word "unincompleteable" really exist? Did I said "just a question"? phew... I need air... <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/silly.gif" alt="" />

Without the patch or an earlier hotfix, you can quicksave when dead, which could end or setback your game if you are mostly relying on the single quicksave (the patch adds 2 quick saves by default, which you can increase if you wish). There was a bug with removing an item with a Magic Barrier bonus if you had not otherwise learned that skill, which could cause your resistances to eventually drop dramatically (so any elemental attack would be a one hit kill). Before the patch Finnigan's magic lockpicks were breakable, and weapon expertise with a fixed range bonus, rather than percent, were broke. There are a couple main plot quests that you can break without the patch, but there are fixes for them. Don't start killing friendly NPCs or toss a teleporter stone into the castle before getting an invitation and you shouldn't run into any major problems. QUESTBREAKERS AND MAKING DIV LIFE DIFFICULT - the majority of problems have a fix, or were fixed in the patch

Then if I don't push the game too hard I should be just fine? Well that's a relief because I'm lvl30 and don't want to start it all again (I haven't entered Stonefist castle yet, want to lvl up more first). BTW: Were there another El' Gammon? Or are you talking about the one in the game? I got this name because it reminds me of my last name "Gama". <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/winkwink.gif" alt="" />

You current saves would still be fine after installing the patch. A couple of the fixes and changes only apply to new games, but the technical fixes, extra quick saves, etc work with existing saves. In the German game version, the first patch introduced incompatibilities in the save format that required starting over, but the English version was released after that, so saved games will work fine in any later version.
The El' Gammon in the game was named after someone in the original forum, as were several other NPCs (Alrik Fassbauer, Arhu... Shrimpo and the guy looking for him were named after a couple guys with a gaming related TV show / web site).
