Is it just me, or has anyone noticed that occasionally one runs into a monster "lord" that is practically impossible to kill, especially because it has a ranged attack, kills your character in one hit (due to damage stats like 100 - 250 damage) and hit points of about 1650 or so. I noticed these early on, for example, the catacomb bottom level, under the 4 floor tiles, as well as the 4 different monster bosses to be killed to unlock the entrance to the lower catacombs, among others.
there was a giant spider whose spit wad would kill me in one hit, i literally had to run away. as i was running through town, the blasted thing demolished the town, killing guards and merchants and townsfolk alike, as well as the smith in the rivertown market square, rendering that merchant's building inaccessable. some of the quests now are inaccessable as well because they're originators are dead as well. finally i lured the thing (well it chased me down relentlessly) to the guards at the castle entrance where they made short work of it, but not without casualties.
i have a relatively decent weapon and armor, good items and stats, on the easy level i'd only have to run around a bit but would be able to have a good battle with the creature before killing it, and i had to be smart about combat. on hard, its foolhardy to go up against one of those. the regular enemy creatures don't have this kind of strength boost, only the "lord" types in each area.
is this by design or is it due to an oversight by the design team when formulating the difficulty formulas for the game? just curious.
well thanks for letting me know.
