I don't care wether the main character is male of female, but I do have to admit, that I seem to enjoy games more if I'm playing as a male character, because I can more easily get into the game. Especially if the game involves talking... I like my main character to have a male voice.
But in multiplayer shooting games, sometimes I choose a female player model, because they're thinner, and therefor harder to hit. Or maybe it just seems as if they're harder to hit... Either way, with a female model and a name like "coolgirl23", people treat you differently. And they get more frustrated when you are kicking their asses. :P
