oh my god Larian what have you done to the death knight voice? Im not very picky when it comes to game voices but this is simply unbearable, its the dumbest voice ever, i tried to put up with it but i couldnt, had to turn the voices off from the options, also the music gets tiresome, the demo was much better why did you have to change it?

Seriously, it can't be as bad as you claim it is... I have yet to get game, but from what I heard the new voices were an improvement. Everything is subjective I suppose...

You're talking about the demo voices. They were redone in the full game because manny gamers felt the same way you did.

Last I heard was that the voices are top quality now.

Sorry Tovi but the voice in the demo was not as bad as a lot of people claimed it was !

I said the full version voices are supposed to be an improvement. There's a difference.

Ok let me try make things more clear.
First things first, i just bought the retail game from eb today so it is the full version im talking about NOT the demo.
second i bought the game the day it came out, why? because i was a huge fan of divine divinity and no im NOT a complainer.
I been playing games for many years and honestly its the first time ever i had to turn off the voices, the death knight voice is making my ears bleed and i never had any complaint about any other voice overs in other games, im not very picky when it comes to voices in games.
I liked the voices in the demo.
Its true that everything is a matter of taste but honestly when it comes to the death knight voice in this game....it is disgusting and it goes beyond just a matter of taste

I just picked up the Full version of the game and I didn't think the voices are all that bad. Very playable IMO.. I'm having a great time playing so far, just got It about an hour ago.

It is indeed a subjective matter. I find the DK's voice much better in the full game than in the demo. Actually, I find most of the voices done pretty well.

IMO, the DK voice is much better although still a fair way from "great". The other voices are generally very good.

As you i liked the demo Deathknight voice because it was neutral.
Now i am scared to be disappointed but i will wait to have the full version of the game to get my own opinion.

I did not say :

This was just a small misunderstanding. Most of the time i have the same opinion than you

I have played the demo of BD and I own the full version of Aquanox. Having played both I can asure you that Aquanox is FAR worse. The voice acting is simply so awful for the English version of the game, that with no option to turn it off I simply cant bring myself to play it. Trust me, if you pay postage and packaging Ill mail you Aquanox. You'll be begging for the Deathknight voice after a few missions of that game

The voices in the demo were preety bad on occasions, but I wouldnt go as far as to say its the worse voice acting in a game, I mean take a look at resident evil 1 "DONT Open...that....DOOR"

I've heard word voices - German Intro of "Crusaders of Might & Magic" is my "worst favourite". Skeletions that should've been frightened but instead sound like Teenies. Bah !

Yeah, I'm going to agree here. The demo's death knight voice was not excatly great, but it wasn't ear-bleedingly awful. This new guy sounds like a trucker trying to sound menacing and bellowing his lines with absolutely no voice-acting training at all, he's simply and utterly terrible. Mind you the guard voices are definitely better than they were. Oh well, tis the gameplay that matters.

Yes, the demo Death Knight voice was not fantastic, but I could live with it.
But the new one.. Along with my first attempt at saving causing a crash to desktop, it will probably be a while before I play BD again. (frustration needs to wear off)

Why did they change "I have no emotion" to "HEAR ME BELLOW!"? He sounds more like a barbarian han a Death Knight.

Does anyone have a sample of the demo death knight voice? (I'd rather not download the whole demo for just wanting like a 5 sec speech).

The new voice is ... umm ...

I liked Divine Divinity's voice, but the voice so far isn't so great. Oh well.

Is there a way to delete the death knights voice entirly? Like removing a sound file without screwing up the game? I like the other voices, but god damn he is annoying.

Talking about retail version btw. Larian do you guys listen to these voices after you make them smirk

Wow, I don't think the DK's voice is bad at all. I think its a lot better than the demo. Too bad they couldn't get James Earl Jones! He would have been perfect!

that means he has done his job well. the script demands that he plays an irritable character.

The DK voice now fits the character. While the voice wouldn't cut it in a Disney film, it is certainly good enough for an rpg. Some people are way too picky.

I agree, the new samples sound fine. I dont expect the voice acting to win academy awards, have tears in my eyes at the sheer beauty of it, as my ears shudder to the exquisite nature of the dulcet tones caressing my eardrums. No, I dont require that, and honestly the new voice doest sound so bad. Even the original wasnt terrible. Truse me Ive heard terrible and this isnt Its good enough to not be irritating but not so good Ill remember it for the rest of my life. In other words, pretty much what I expect for voice acting in a game

For goodness sake Larian specifically delayed release to re record the voice for their fans. I cant think of another company would do that. So stop whining like a spoilt child who wont be satisfied no matter what its given and enjoy what youve got. Its a lot better than whats been served up by some other titles

I thought the "evil" samples from Muze would have been perfect. The new DK is OK, but I was actually starting to like the old voice the more I played the demo.

Its your opinion that its better, its mine that its worse...I cant stand his voice, but what really makes me wonder is why almost every other voice is so good.

I think they were trying for an extreme factor to his voice being a Death Knight and all, but I think they overdid it.

All I know is that I have to turn the volume down on my speakers every time he speaks cause its such a distraction from the game for me.

And I was right to do so. I have no problem with the DK's voice. Therefore, it does NOT go beyond a matter of taste, therefore the poster is WRONG to make that statement.

In my view, statements like “oh it’s just a matter of taste” and/or “It’s all subjective” aren't the best arguments for defending (and sometimes detracting from) something.

By that same logic someone could post that pong is a better quality game than BD and be 100% correct since it’s “all subjective”. Sure, on one hand people are entitled to their opinions, but come on there’s got to be a line drawn somewhere.

extended edit note: I think a large part of my dissatisfaction with the DK's voice stems from the fact that I found the prime characters in DD to all have much better VO work. Just for clarification, and for the record, I've used all six extensively and I think they all rock-the-house ! erm, sorry, just suffered a momentary DD fanboi moment there.

Oh for goodness sake. Poor Larian must be ready to tear their eyeballs out and eat them after reading the new raft of complaints about the DK's voice... that'll teach them for being stand-up folks, redoing the entire voice set because fans complained about the last one.

Y'all got what you asked for. Or in some cases, whined about. A new voice for the DK because you didn't like the last one. Now y'all don't like this one either. Arrghhhh. Face it, neither voice set is going to win any awards, but both of them do the job. Now quitcherbitching and go play the danged game. That's what I'm doing and I'm flat having a blast!

BTW, Larian, thanks for tweaking the combat. I'm not having any trouble at all targeting enemies.

Your logic is in error. They couldn't say that pong is a better quality game and be 100% correct. Making that statement eshews any subjectivity! If they said "I like pong better than BD" then they could be 100% correct.

Do please try and get your logic right if you're going to argue semantics.

I am not a sensationalist. I'm not one of those people who runs around saying "This is the worst ____ ever", because there are so many things in the world that it usually isn't. But out of the hundreds of games I've played in my lifetime, this one really does have the worst voice acting of all of them. Not just for the deathknight, but for all the charecters. Divine Divinity's could be campy, since they didn't have a huge budget or anything, but it wasn't bad. This, however, is just god-awful. I may turn off voices for the first time ever in a game, except the text has grammatical errors so I might misread it.

Hi everybody, i started this post the day the game came out because i had to vent my disappointment at the stupid tone of dk voice but now after playing some more i have to say the dk tone gets much better, he loses that stupid angry tone in his voice so now im ok with it, game is very interesting and fun to play except for the weird scrolling that reacts abruptly as soon as cursor gets near the end of the screen but thats another story :P

Hi Kay

Don't worry, the people are enough intelligent and they are going to buy the game even if they have read a few bad comments about the DK's voice.

I am a bit angry about the people who screamed 2 months ago about "the bad demo voices" and who realise now that they were wrong !

Larian people spent a lot of time, a lot of energy and a lot of money to change the voices to satisfy the gamers and these ones are still complaining !

I don't have the game for the moment and i am very impatient to get it.

I just started the game and i dont mind the voice. Both the demo's and this our good. I think the guy that did the voice acting for sarevok from Baldurs Gate wouldve been perfect for this guy IMO, but theres nothing wrong with this one and i think its stupid to not by a game just becuz you dont like a voice =/.

Im really excited to get into this game, especially about the skill system. I've always wanted a game where you had so many options to build a character you could make a totally unique charatcer. As much as I love baldurs gate, if you play a mage character 3 the character will prolly turn out the exact same each time, or if you made a fighter multiple times, youll probably always end up with the same weapons and armor by the end each time.

Argh, yes I was about to come here and post this myself. I LOVED the death knight's voice in the demo, he sounded sadistic but intelligent. In the full version he sounds like a constipated barbarian, granted I am not far yet and I hear he lays off the aggressiveness.
I certainly agree that the rest of the voice acting sucked, especially the guards locked in that room, that was so bad I thought it was a joke, but the Death Knight was excellent.

*EDIT*
Oh, I don't want to sound like i'm not absolutetly in love with this game, because I am ^_^ Divine Divinity was my second favorite PC RPG of all time, and this looks far superior in every way. So I would like to pass on my sincere thanks for making such a masterpiece of a series in a sea of developers who don't care. Hats off to 'ya!

Of course they're funny. Reminds me of the voice acting in Dynasty Warriors 3.
