I was so sad earlier today when I bought the game cuz my system specifications are actually lower than the minimum system requirements. It says on the box that a 64MB video card is required, but my video card is only 32MB and the amount of RAM I have is exactly what the minimum is (256 mb). But fortunately, the game runs perfectly fine, even at higher resolutions and with fog turned on.
So what's going on? I thought it was a little strange that Beyond Divinity's requirements are so much higher than Divine Divinity's considering they use the same engine...

When I picked up my perorder I nearly pooed my pants when i read the specs. Recommended vid card 128mb...for what? I think this game has higher specs than gothic 2. Anyways, I have a 32 mb vid card and 256 mb of ram and it runs fine with me too. Runs alot better than the demo.
Edit: A funny story, when I got the game I sat it down to get some gum out of the gumball machine, anyways when I got the gum I dropped some of it and in my anger I forgot all about BD. So I continue walking untill Im out of the mall and I noticed I dont have my game. I ferverishly ran back as fast I could and luckily my copy was still there.

well hello, Zebulahn, & welcome!
game engine, although it's essentially the same as , it is a souped-up version. in another word; modified to be more powerful. in what ways it become powerful? well now it supports DirectX 9 amongst other things. so more eye candy, more interaction can be made with the game environment, & just more more more. oh yes, the characters (players & NPCs) are rendered in real-time 3D (as opposed to 2D sprites in DD) as well so that makes the requirement much higher.
i hope that answers your question.

I know that but my point is that, for the reasons I explained above, I don't think that the system requirements on the game's box is correct.

to tell u the truth, almost none of any games nor applications are correct in terms of printed requirements on the boxes. look at Win XP's requirements; much too low & u know that u need at least twice the amount/power stated in the requirements for that bloated OS to run.
actually i'm relieved that has the right kind of 'wrong requirement specs', which is over-estimation rather than under-estimation.

I always think they are very cautious when giving system specs because peoples PC varies so greatly. If they are generous with their requirements (i.e The minumum listed is probably higher that what it CAN actually run on) they dont have thousands or furiously angry customers complaining along the lines of "My computer meets the minimum requirements, how come it runs so crappy?".
I think its a diplomatic descision as much as a technical one
@ Kalkren : Hehe! Silly! Im glad your copy was still there or Id probably hear you screaming here in Australia.

Hopefully, the inflated system requirements doesn't stop anyone from buying the game. I have to admit that I thought of returning it! Luckily, I decided to upgrade my computer instead, but it turns out I didn't have to do that either.

If your system was below those specs you needed a bit of an upgrade You can get a 64mb vid card quite cheaply nowadays. Thats more memory that my first actual PC had

You gotta be kiddin'! Those reqs are up there with Morrowind! I have an 8 MB vid card and the demo runs fine. Had to update drivers to get Dx9 though.

No Im not kidding, merely interpreting. Honestly if erring on the side of diplomacy was NOT their intention...........what was. If you have a valid theory, please air it as this was the only one I could come up with. Please note for the record: I am in no way ascociated with Larian studios or with Hipgames. I am a fan of the series. All I can offer is my opinion

The system requirments on the box are the same if not higher than star wars knights of the old republic on the pc. I saw that and was curious as to how KOTOR a full 3-d third person rpg with top of the line graphics got beat out by Beyond Divinity (not saying the graphics on bd are bad I love them)?
