I will tell you what happened with me about an hour ago.
One of my colleagues came to work with BMW 523 I A (2,5L, year 2000). Nice car. We had some debates, which car accelerates faster: this car, mine Peugeot 406 (2.9L 2001) or Audi A6. So, decided that three of us will drive on this BMW one after another and then discuss impressions.
We were making this test on a ordinary street right in front of our office.
First one was owner of Audi, his top speed was approx 120 km per hour.
Second was me. I tried acceleration, kickdown (automatic transmission).
I started in front of office building and drove about 400 m on this street, then turned back. On the way back I noticed that I am being followed by some car.
That was police under discuise . They have a coupple of cars without any signs to track speed exceeding peeps.
They got me when I finally stopped in front of the office. The speed they registered was 95 kmph. Allowed is 50. That wasn't my top speed, but this was more than enough to get about 1000-2000 USD penalty and driving prohibition for half a year. After I explained everything to them both policemen laughed and told that this was registered top speed on this street for a last week. As a reward they gave me penalty for 100 USD only.
Hehe, remember, there was the first guy, policemen missed him .
PS. When I was in the policecar and policemen were deciding what to do with me, two NATO warplanes flied in the sky. I told, yay, here are other speed exceeders.
Policeman replied: We will finish with you and deal with them on their way back, as we did with you.
