Well I haven't played it yet. But I am not getting a standard mage. I'll mix it with some survivor skills. I read somewhere that the enemies use the same magic spells in the game as you can get. So maybe you should invest in the harder skills. Remember if you get killed by a mage in the game just think you could have that skill that killed you.
It's not like diablo where the first magic spell you find level it up and can use till the end of the game. In <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/div.gif" alt="" /> you only got the firespell and the lightning spell that were good enough to go throug the intire game shure theire wher better spells but you could get by with just those 2 spells. Seems that in <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/beyond.gif" alt="" /> the beginner spell are weak spells so you have to use stronger spells.
There really aren't enough skill points to split around. If you start splitting, by the time you reach high levels those will be wasted skills. In reality you sorta have to choice a couple spells or skills and pump everything into them. In other words, this new skill/spell system is utterly retarded.
