Turns out I had a save from the Abbey (Necromancer) level. I completed that, and am now back in the imp village. I'm going to stay away from the Battlefields as long as possible to give them time for another patch, but if it's gonna be a while, I'd just as soon put the game aside until it can be fixed.
I can't believe the game made it out of testing with the Battlefield bugs. It just doesn't seem like something you'd miss, and since it seems to be happening to everyone, looks like a hard bug, and not a fluke.
