Is it just me, or is this normal? All the merchants in my game never update their inventory. They never get more gold or potions. And what's more, whenever I visit the battlefields, the merchants there sell the same stuff every time, even between acts. It's really starting to make the game difficult, due to lack of potion supplies.

That is normal. The merchants in Divinity had regenerating inventories, leading to an unlimited amount of gold. For Beyond Divinity, the Larians apparently wanted to change that. At least for the gold, this is reasonable. I have not run into a shortage of potions, but can see where at least some restocking of potions could be handy, perhaps at an increased price. I have not learnt Alchemy yet, though, which may provide enough potions that the merchant's limited stock doesn't matter.

One point in "extract potion" should take care of your potion needs for some time; if that's not enough, another in "extract" and two in "combine" will let you make medium restoration potions, which fully restore health and mana. If not, you might think about your character design, and look into getting more defense. Speed, agility and survival shouldn't be neglected.

I sell a lot of potions, but haven't had to buy any yet!
