My first one was ... Lands of Lore. My second "Schicksalsklinge", a part of the "Realms of Arcania" series.

I rather wanted Adventures (that's my first sort of computer games ever - still like them) and I didn't like any sort of killing that much. Except evil figires, of course. I wanted something immersive, like a good book.

It was kind of strange for me; a whole new world with gods and heroes (of the Bronze Age ... but that's someting different [actually the title of an exhibition ] ) .

I don't know when I started playing them. The first was probably Dungeon of Doom on Macintosh. Just a dungeon hack, but fairly closely resembles modern Hack-and-Slash RPGs. That was about 12 years ago? I played adventure games a lot. Quest for Glory was probably the first real RPG I played. I got into that from other Sierra Games.

If I remember right 'Stone Prophet' was the first I played, but that was in about 1990 or so and even then it was after years of playing P&P D&D.

My first RPG was Wizardry 1 on the Apple II back in 1982, and I've been hooked ever since.

My very first was Castle, on monochrome display on XT.
But first real addiction as I remember first Diablo and later Baldur's Gate.

I read a ton of Fantasy and SciFi stuff so I liked the concepts of CRPGs from the start.

A lot of it was the fact that I was looking for something that had more story and more detailed interaction than an action game had. I am a thinker and not much of a hands on person. Action games are ok but they bore me very quickly (usually well under 10 hours) and also tend to be more frustrating.

I started with Dragon Warrior, Ultima 6, and just kept going.

I mainly buy CRPGs. My second most common genre is simulation and then occasionally if I am looking for something where I don't have to think at all, I will play an action game. Of course, I usually cheat so the action game isn't frustrating but.. *shrug*

on the Nes , my first "rpg" game was ZELDA1

then after a looong time, i finaly got wy first PC in 1996. a top pc at the time (P1@133 with 16Mb ram- 2Mb video memory)

Diablo I reckon. Kept me busy for hours. I was hooked on the sword and sorcery action RPG type-genre after that. Soggy-IWD was also a real favourate.

I always thought BG was rather dull.

Absolutely it's an RPG! Certainly more so than Diablo. There's three classes which can evolve into numerous other classes through quests. There's an abundance of quests, many optional. There's a variety of personal traits to improve through practice (not skill points). Unfortunately, they started tampering with the combat system. It was best in the first game and should have stayed that way or at least similar.

confession of a RTS gamer

yep, back when westwood studios still exist (bless them!), i play mostly C&C & when westwood came up with Nox, i grabbed it without much thought & frankly speaking, it was much more fun than diablo, which i played later on.

so that's my pitiful intro on RPGs.

that was on the megadrive was it? i thought that it was too new for that because i played it on the playstation.

my first rpg was Might and Magic 6 and at first i hated it because it was well hard, but after i didnt have it for a while because it broke i needed to play so bought it again and it is probably my favourite game ever.

The first one I played was the dungeon grand daddy of them all...maybe...

Dunegon Master on the PC!

Others where Buck Rodgers on the Megadrive
and the Zelda games, then final fantasy!

Mainly I got into the rpg paper and dice games and that was were the real interest came from.

Playing stuff like
Warhammer RPG
Middle-Earth (rolemaster)
Call of Cthulhu (my personal favourite)

board games with minatures you mean, like dungeons and dragons. thats awsome that game. Do you know what the game where you have a warrior character an elf and other characters and you go against a dungeon master is called. There was a figure in it with a wip and i remeber playing it a well long time ago but cant remember the name. it was a bit like dungeons and dragons.

I use to play simulators and RTS games until I played Betrayal at Krondor, was hooked since then. Also read a lot of fantacy books like Death Gate Cycle, Terry Pratchet, and recently Wheel of Time series, which is starting to &%$# me off.
