Made by some guys from blizzard, it looks like a very promising game. It has no monthly fee and the client is only 62k!!!

It downloads all you need to while you play, you never get more than you need on your computer. You can try it out from the 12 to 14 mai, it'll still be in alpha phase and it's for show at E3 but it's still a nice occasion to try the game.

Cheers,
Frank

Small correction, you download a small program that's 62k large and then it installs the client (69mb) Still kind of small wich can be good for dial-up users.

What sort of connection do you need to play if everything is downloaded on the spot?

EDIT: Just reread the post and I understand now. I need sleep...

Rythok, thanks gor the info.

OMG this game looks soo promising. Very ambicious plans. I feel absolutely 100% intrigued .

I liked online gaming, but there are things that turn you away, as it was written on guild wars website: spawn camping, kill stealing, endless hours spent for group finding, travelling and leveluping just kill you as a gamer. If they will succeed in their plans then I beleive, they can get online gaming to a new level, where you will be judged by your gaming skills, not by lvl/hours spent in game.

And yay, no monthly fee, my dark side though smiles, hehe just wait couple of months after releise and you will have monthly fee implemented Hope, my dark side is mistaken.

And screenshots are just incredible.

@ Egin : In their FAQ they say that there will be no monthly fees ever, but I also have a cynical side that has to wonder. Then again maybe the will just make their extra bucks after release by making expansions to the world that you have to pay for?

Wow, they graphics look truly amazing. Ill keep an eye on this game.

Let's meet ingame.

We will be able to form group of even guild, chat and kill uglies together. The demo will be playable during E3 only.

I will definitely install it and go online. Here we can discuss when and where will we meet ingame.

How do you like it?

APPARENTLY they designed it with a dial up modem in mind. Still, we will see how that bears out. The free trial starts tomorrow. We get to try it fully free of charge for 3 days. So if you want to give it ago and stress test their servers, keep it in mind ok?

Tooooo time consuming. If you're playing with real people, there's a tendency to fall into a kind of fugue that makes you forget about the real world. It's worse than standalone games, in that respect. (And mind you, I was a writer/programmer for an MMORPG, so I'm not unaware of the product. )

It's okay with an alarm clock set for no more than an hour or two, I suspect. But real life can much more fun if you how to set about it.

I find that is my complaint with MMORPG, they simply take too much time. Id rather come home from work and play a nice, cohesive, single player game that has a depthful plot, and doesnt feel as much like work as the job I left.

Yes, you all right. MMORPG is much more time consuming game and the biggest con is that often you can't just hit escape to pause the game and go AFK, it is because there are real people behind characters.
I agree, this can ruin your family, it almost ruined mine, as when you are needed you are on guild hunt/meeting/blah-blah-blah, going offline in real life.
But, somehow I start to miss that world, it is that intrigue that arose my interest towards another MMORPG again. Hope, this time I will act more realisticly, as Fable said, put on 1h timer

Fable, always wanted to ask, do you like games? You say, you are/were involved into creating them, you know details. So are you still interested?

Guild Wars seems to be a mission based game, wich is quite different than other MMORPGs. In other games all you needed to do was get a group and kill the same monster for a few hours.

Guild Wars will make you take on a mission with a group, it creates a dungeon for that group only and when it's done well... it's done. I believe it will be a lot easier in this game to stop whenever you want.

I'm not sure if it really is going to be good, so I'll try it tomorrow and get a good idea of how the game works. I'll be on it tomorrow at around 4pm est. My name will be Rythok, just in case you cross paths with me.

Thanks for alerting us about the game. I just looked over the site and a couple of fansites and I will probably give it a test drive tonight. If any of you are playing it tonight I plan to name my character Law. Short for Cleglaw.

Man, this game is fun!! I still can't get through the second main quest and I've tried with three different parties. I do seem to get a little further each time though. I was suprised by how easy the game is to get into.
