FWIW, IGNs reviewer (see announcement) definetely had several gripes with the skillpoint system too. He covered the points more elequently that I ever could.
Normally I find IGN reviews are junk, and Kasavin's reviews at Gamespot excellent. But the IGN BD review was by far the best of the bunch. They covered the flaws very well, but still gave it a decent 8.0 - or 9.0 when the problems are resolved.
