In DD it was less annoying. I had cats and dogs and rats trying to kill me everywhere but they are weak. (Still, I didn't liked to have to smash dogs & cats in every single town.)
In BD it's worse because the critter I killed by accident is level 12.
3 or 4 on my level 14 tank & caster and they are toast.
Since they can fight you while you are looking at an automated action (door opens, NPC speak) you can die without being able to do anything.
