I had the same problem and believe me, I tried everything. It seems the patch hosed my save games. None of them had my pyramids in them, and I had several other bugs pop up.
I've tried reinstalling, repatching, blah blah. Nothing worked.
Let me know if you have success. I'd love to finish this game but I'm not going to start over.
