Just wondering is I will still be able to finish the game. Here is the problem:

Before going into town and visiting the Keeper of the Ranks I already had 7 quest items in my inventory. (Mirror, Raanaar Urn, Bat Guano, Old Cheese, Holy Relic, Spider Web, Demon's Bane Gem). After talking to him I tried to complete the Holy Relic Quest but the guy will not acknowlege that I have it (I went back to the place I picked it up, and dropped it and picked it up again as a test - but he still does not recognise that I have it). Also I entered a locked cellar (without even having a key) and killed an assassin and it seems there are other parts to that quest that I have not gotten yet. So the quests in the town are probably pretty much hosed.

Question is can I still complete Act III working with the Raanaar rather than the Humans? Or am I totally FUBAR'ed?

This is surprising => the locked hatch is supposed to stay locked until you got Sigurd's quest to kill Groblar and get the key by killing his bodyguards (was already locked in 1.1 or 1.2?) => before that, this quest was really buggy.

Mirror, urn, bane gem => no ranking quests => Raanaar rebels
Guano/cheese => did you talk to the Talking Tibar in the outskirts? He has a ranking quest for you.
Relic => have you looked at the billboard and got the info that a certain monk needs help? Did you go to him then and collect the quest?

Spider's web => were did you find this? I can't recall a quest for it. Is it from Act 2 maybe?

The Raanaar rebel quests are sub quests. MAIN plot is this => become Nr 2 due to ranking quests - then challenge Nr 1 (or she challenges you) - kill her => entry to Black Bishop => get the quest to retireve the Staff of power => enter catacombs. Fight yourself through, solve the tests there.

How high are you in ranking? I need the ranking XP. please.

I did not kill any of Groblar's Bodyguards, and got no key. I saw the hatch and clicked on it to see if there might be some message, but it opened and I wound up in the cellar where Groblar began a dialogue about the other assassin who I had not encountered at this point.

Yes, saved him, got the quest, and have the items for him now.

Yes, got the info from the messageboard, talked to "Brother Raze" ( I think that is his name) several times and he keeps asking me if I have found the Holy Relic yet, but it is already in my inventory.

This is a strange one. I picked up another quest item in one of the underground areas, it was not called a "Spider Web" at that time and I forget now what it was called (I can search all the underground areas again and find out because I flag everything that I pick up). But apparently after the last patch (not sure if it is related though) the item I picked up has changed to what looks like a greyish-purple clump of coal or rock that is now named "Spider Web".

My current rank is 5000. The only quest that I have been able to complete after entering the town is for the Raanaar (they accepted the Raanaar Urn that was already in my inventory with no problem).

My real concern is that I have uncovered almost all of the surface area in the main game, all the surface area and 2 dungeons in the BattleField, and all the quests (except from the town) that I encountered along the way. I would rather not spend another 10 - 20 hours now to find out that I have to start Act III all over again(already restarted Act III once after the patch and getting kind of tired of doing the same things all over again).

Hm, could it be exotic ore?
Please, Grim - could you satisfy my curiosity and send me your save? Rar or zip it, please. You don't need to split, my account takes up 10 MB at one go.

or - if you can upload your save somewhere - I'd be happy to download it. I'd like your version as confirmation. thank you in advance for the trouble.

Thank you very much <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/up.gif" alt="" />

I'm currently creating another copy of my game and will patch this to 1.42 and load your game into it. I think, you had the polymorph bug, right?

You should have it now.

Not sure what the polymorph bug means, but if it is bad I probably have it <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/smile.gif" alt="" />

I also was able to open the hatch on my first visit to Groblar's house wothout the key. The mistake I made was agreeing to kill Sigurd then going to Sigurd's house only to find out he did not kill Groblar's family. At that point he turned on me and I had to kill him. When I returned to Groblar's house I had to then kill him. But both quests are still in my log. I doubt they will go away now. These quests really need a broader branching to allow for more than one method to complete them.

The broader branch caused more muddle (you were able to enter the hatch without a key), so one part was taken out, it didn't work.:

this is the only possibility to clear your log:
Accept Sigurd's quest
refuse Groblar's offer to bribe you and turn you around (he reacts: it was well worth a try)
go to Sigurd and get XP/reward.
