My impressions? Avoid using the summoned dolls except as trap fodder. There aren't enough skill points to supply anything beyond the necessities, so giving away those points to dolls is suicide.

Magic: ignore it, in general. Act I spells are ridiculously weak compared to melee skills, and all magic takes far too much mana to kill what you want.

Archery: If you power it up enough it's pretty good, and I would recommend splitting or explosive arrows. The problem is, to make the arrows truly powerful, you have to invest skill points in a *single* type of arrow. Which is no fun at all.

Melee: in general, this is where to invest most of your skill points, in the current state-of-the-game. That might change with future patches; but for now, melee is a good way to go on one character, with archery on a second.
