try dragging & dropping vs clicking the item in inventory. on my original game, before i lost use of the summoning doll due to the patch cause the game would crash, i had that issue, but clicking the item in inventory to equip/swap items seemed to do the trick in making the stats adjust. meanwhile, drag & drop failed.
