I won't go into the details of the end battle, who-where-why-etc., but I will say that I am deeply frustrated by it. As I suspected after getting the jist of the what the end-battle would entail when it was far too late to change anything, my survivor character was unable to win the game. She had put nearly every point she had into bow skills and arrow competency, had 132% accuracy, yet missed the end "bad guy" with every single shot.
Every.
Single.
Shot.
Missed, missed, missed, missed, missed, missed,... you get the gist. From a Level 30 archer with dozens of skillpoints in her chosen weapon, the bow.
She ran in circles gulping potions, dodging fireballs and swords from summons as well as the final bad guy, managed to kill a few summons, but never put a single, solitary dent in the end bad guy no matter which kind of arrow was used. She finally grabbed a spear out of her inventory and without a single competency point in warrior skills, managed to poke a few hp's away from the bad guy. But of course, two hits from him and she had to run and gulp again.
This is on Very Easy, I might add.
After spending, and I kid you not, two and a half hours trying to make even a visible dent in the bad guy's hit points, I gave up. A first for me. I've never NOT finished a game because my character simply couldn't do it, could not even manage a single hit in 2-1/2 hours of trying.
This has got to be the most piss-poor ending I've ever seen in a RPG, and I've seen some doozies. Sorry, Larian. This flat borders on sadistic. I wish you well with Beyond Divinity, but it is certainly not my kind of game. I won't be buying Divine Divinity 2 until it has been on the shelf long enough for me to assure myself that this kind of designer-gotcha bugfest won't ruin it the way it ruined BD.
To say my disappointment has sunk into utter and complete frustration is an understatement.
Thanks to my fellow gamers who have so generously answered many questions for me and for others. I'll be seeing you around other game boards, I'm sure. But not this one. Bye, y'all!
