This statement was also in Divine Divnity with the two wounded soldiers in Aleroth, and the three plague victims in Rivertown. The healers of Aleroth refused to decide who would die. The plague dilemma forced you to decide who would die. I really would have liked to see all three victims provide a unique reward for saving them. Only Sir Patrick's son had any follow on, nothing as it was.
Well there was a bit of a cheat with that but the priciple is sound.
