Larian Studios Forums Beyond Divinity (English) Technical Problems CRASHING TO WINDOWS

*sigh* I've been battleing this for a week now, I've done everything....uninstalled; ran with no patch got updated patches;drivers all updated. and my save game continues to crash to windows. I get to load the game but before the load bar is done I'm back to windows. As of this moment I reinstalled the game reloaded my savegames and CRASH <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/confused.gif" alt="" /> I've searched these forums and done everything thats been suggested to others. sooo I know ur going to tell me to create a new char, but I'm a struborn woman and guess I need to hear it from the techies lol

At least start a new game and save/load to try to narrow down if it is a problem in your current saves or something with the game itself.

You didn't backup your saved games to CD-R did you, and copy them back so the files are marked as read-only on the hard drive?

Try deleting the files in the dynamics folders;
'..\Beyond Divinity\Acts\Act1\Dynamic', '..\Beyond Divinity\Acts\Act2\Dynamic', etc.
These folders are used as a cache for the game. Files are created / copied there from the save game folder when you load, and written / copied to those folders when you save a game. The files will be re-created as required the next time you start Beyond Divinity. If there was a corrupt file in those folders, deleting the files should fix the problem.

Well...ya it came off a cd-r BUT I also went into recycle bin and took one that wasn't from cd-r and got same problem. I can go to a different previous save and play. I tried that last nite like when I first got into cit 9 plays k. (I know ur going to say sorry but the main save is no long playable lol) And I did what u said and deleted the dynamic file for act 1 and 2 and now the game crashes before the load gave menu lol BUT I also took off the read only option for those folders....maybe that's y it's crashing......sigh I HATE computers!

If the files in the saved game folder are marked as read-only, the game will crash trying to load the save. Selecting the files in Explorer, right clicking, selecting properties and clearing the checkmark for the read-only attribute should fix that.

Deleting the files in the dynamics folders should not cause any crashes. The read-only attribute should already have been cleared.

Did what u said, but it crashes everytime. The dynamic folders r empty, and I change the read-only to be unchecked, but when I go back to check the properties of the folder after the crash, its back to read only. <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/memad.gif" alt="" /> so I have no clue and will just have to delete the char and start anew. Glad I love this game <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/biggrin.gif" alt="" />

naaaaa just the one game file, I've been playing with a previous save. It just bites with all that work and to do it all over again lol my puter flys like the wind nuttin wrong with it.

I hope this works, i can assure you this update has sorted out LOTS of my gaming problems.

You can either just search for that article number on the microsoft web site, or go to the windows update page and read through the updates, which one covers that article.

THANK YOU <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/delight.gif" alt="" /> It didn't fix the file that I wanted BUT it did fix a save game from the day before. So I'm only a level behind. Thanks so much I'm at lvl 14 and the char I had to build back up is a 9 lol but I'll still work on her. This and this means I can tickle the spider this time instead of killing it lol. thanks again sooooo much... <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/offtopic.gif" alt="" /> I wish to say that I also am going to start a internet cafe here in colorado in the states. I have to get the business plan together I never realized how much I had to prove that I can make it work lol ...well THANKS again

No problem, I am glad i could help you somewhat... that microsoft patch fixes a lot of the bugs in MANY games... so i always keep it handy...
