Thanks Raze, this might explain what I observed.

I will perform two definite tests:

1. Select DK as primary, get a mob to aggro and see if either DK or avatar attack without any input on my part.

2. Select Avatar as primary, get a mob to aggro and see if either DK or avatar attack without any input on my part.

I'll report findings afterwards. Oh, and yes, I have tried switching them to Normal and back to aggressive and even switching them from Peaceful back to aggressive.
