Its this sort of thing that has me already in the paperwork forms being signed off getting duel citizenship in Ireland and moving to the EU.

just being an American citizen and living here makes it so that many people in the World hate me before they know me. Even some people here on the forum.

I can understand that.

Many of the decisions politiciansof the U.S. make are not understandable (to put it mildly) here in Germany, and it good parts of Europe.

The height was reached when Mr. Rumsfeld called "the Europe of the un-willing" (those who didn't want to support Mr. Bush's war) as the "Old Europe".

You cannot imagine how insulting and disciminating that was !

Unfortunately, many people's mind patterns go like this : "Government = Country". So, many here believe that what Mr. Bush and "his" government says, is the explicite expression of what the whole country thinks !

Only those interested in the details and those more reasonable realize that this isn't the case - like in every country.

Mr. Bush isn't well respected here anymore, and even worse since Mr. Rumsfeld's "Old Europe" insult. I'd like to condemn him just because this saying !

The fact is, as I had written once in German in a different Forum, that the U.S. and it's companies acts - from the pooint of view of many europeans - like they were superior to anything else

Like Bush for example : Treating prisonders in the Iraq as if the "Convention of Geneva" didn't exist ! The Government isn't even willing to accept lawsuits from the world court in Den Haag ! (At least that's how I understood it).

This "acting like everything else is inferior" is supported by Mr. Bush's religious references ("God's chosen country"), which are absurd, because he and likeminded people simply cannot tell what God's will is. The Bible is a hole book, yes, but it isn't necessarily God's Will, but instead a collection of tales everyone learns who studies Theology.

Companies often act as if they were working only for their country. Just an example : LucasArts for example, or Hasbro 8for the collectors) made so-called "sweepstakes" (i still don't know to 100% what this word actually means), giving away prices. However, only people living in the U.S. could participate, then, as if there were no Star Wars Fans in the "outside world" at all !

That's what I mean. There is a tendence especially with Computer Games Publishers, which I formulated as "bigger, better, first". (One of my favourite example is "Age of Wonders : Shadow Magic", which was published first in the U.S. , although the game was developed in the Netherlands ! You can re-created this feeling considering that and were relesed in Germany first, first to any other country in the world. That feeling is the same I always get when I see a game being released in the US first, because a Publisher decided to do so.)

[Maybe Publishers do so because they believe it would be "patriotic" to publish a game in the U.S. first ?]

This leads in non-US countries to the impression as if they were treated as being inferior to US citizens, thus leading into ant-americanism.

You as a citizen cannot do anything against it; to me, it's rather the mind-pattern that works in the government and in companies leading into these results.

So, this kind of mind-pattern needs to be changed, to regain respect and reputation, especially for treating other countries equally, and thus not imposing the impression that everything else was inferior.

It's very complicated.

Alrik.

Pacifism = weakness. Pacifism, much like communism, is a superb ideal, but only works if EVERYONE agrees to it. It only takes one greedy, powerhungry person to take advantage of it and ruin it for everyone!

I've read people writing that "america is a dangerous country". Why ? If here in Europe people and countries would try to end their connections to "america", the U.S. could invade and bomb any country here in Europe !

That's very *extreme* description of what I've read, but it catches the tune. "Americans" take what they want, and they don't ask for morale, ethics, countries, whatever. That's the impression people get by the Iraq war. Therefore "america" is dangerous.

To put it VERY midly, even to some of us here.

He did? The [nocando]! Alm,ost 75% of Americans can trace themselves to Europe! At least everyone 'white'. (Not to be racist mind you).

I can guess.

I must say I respect Rumsfeld not every one can insult the whole of Europe with one line. Whole Europe came together in anger over Rumsfeld.

BTW: I was being Ironic

What’s more surprising is that it came from the secretary of defence and not from a low level source. It's not like he Conan O brien. Now theire is a guy who can insult me every time and it stays funny.

*pulls lever while walker Texas ranger clip plays*

sometimes their is friction in Europe to. (I believe our foreign minister called Berlusconi an Idiot once) but that’s just politics the people of that country weren’t angry at us. But Rumsfeld really got to the hearts of people with that comment.

It's like comedian Lewis black says:

Its not because we aren't with you that we are rooting for the other team. It's not like there was anyone in those peace demonstrations with a sign "Saddam rulez" Because if there was I would have kicked his a$$.

I most certainly would call Mr. Berlusconi an idiot, too, but that's my personal taste. I don't like him.

I thought I'd start off this post with that quote because I liked it. The peace protesters wanted Saddam out of Iraq too. Myself included. It had to be done with due process though.

To explain: The whole process of declaring war on Iraq was totally rushed and completely wrong in the approach. Believing dodgy intelligence.(actually not believing it, just using it more as an excuse) Ignoring the UN. Claiming non-existant links between al-Quiada and Saddam when actually half of the 9/11 hijackers were from Saudi Arabia. The list is of lies and BS that have gone into making this 'war is endless. I think the link to the story I posted before will be another part of the facade.

There are secrets we will never be privvy to. The real reasons wars are fought for are usually the most pathetic you've ever heard. Maybe we will see in another 100 years or so....

I personally would love to see M. Moore's movie. If they ever release it here.... (Freedom? My buttocks it is! )

Yup, Farenheit 9/11. A fantastically clever title IMO.
