i just started playing, but the new interface is annoying me greatly, probably because i finished divine divinity only 4 hours ago, but still.
i guess ill get used to most things, but id REALLY like some button to toggle the scrolling (or toggle the center on char, same thing). if i run somewhere, i always put my mouse at the edge of the screen (habit from divine i guess), but also when i want to pick something up i often start scrolling.

This is easy -

Hold down the left mouse button for walking and the screen will automatically
center and scroll with your characters.

That's something that's supposed to be in the manual, isn't it?
Well, it isn't so I found out after several hours into the game - <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/sleepey.gif" alt="" />

I also agree, i loved DD more for that reason, if i WANT to scroll, i used shift... I am totally agreeing that its a tad anoying to scroll somewhere when you just want to pick something up (happens to me too)

This used to bug me, but then I got used to it. Now I don't think it's a bad system at all. The thing is, in DD, there wasn't a time in the game when I really wanted to scroll. But in BD, I simply have to be able to see what's ahead of me, and plan things out.(Especially in my 800x600 resolution). In these cases, the shift button would be more annoying to use.

Just get used to holding down the mouse while running around. And for long distance walking, click on the minimap to walk around easier. If you ever need to recenter the screen, just hold down the mouse button for half a second second, and let go.

I have no problems with this system.

Tovi May Raan refresh you!

well then ignore the toggle <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/tongue.gif" alt="" />
im not a tactical player, i figure things out with the pause button and prefer it that way. walking isnt my problem really, its just that i always swing my mouse from one end of the screen to the other. the fact that i might scroll is always on my mind, like i have to be extra careful just to navigate a frickin interface.
