Hope this is not your problem:
I had the same problems when the game first came out. The problem turned out to be a failing Hard Drive for me. I had the dealer who sold the computer to me check it out and he replaced the CD Drive, the Hard Drive, and the Memory (all at no cost since the computer was only a couple of months old) and the problem was gone.
