I have a leather cap in my inventory that I sold but it does not go away and does not show up in the trade interface. I can throw it on the groud. It is a unique item.
Many times, not always, when I access my heros inventory The armor and books both show up at the same time. Both icons will be highlighted. When I press 1 of the icons the other inventory group will go away.

Are you sure it was that cap you sold? Unique and quest items do not show up in the trade window. After an act change, unique items change names, and can be sold.
I think the whatever/book inventory tabs both being active at the same time is a glitch whenever the inventory is opened the first time after loading the game or coming back from the battlefields or something. Someone else reported this, so I just ignored it the couple times I've run into it.

You are probably correct on the cap and come to think of it the inventory thing is probably only on start up because it does not happen all of the time.
Oh I did have an item hit the ground it was a ring but the discrption was of a spear.

just out of curiosity, what relevance to the act do unique items have that they cannot be sold in that act. seems silly to me.

Maybe with the internal structure of the file system they are classified the same as quest items? It may have something to do with sets not being fully implemented (I assume the original plan for sets was more elabourate than what is in the game, anyway).

well hopefully that issue is overcome in divinity 2, if not here and it would have been nice if Jarnic's staff and robe actually did have a set ability when combined. but oh well. *sigh*
