but scientificly i thought the ice age was a direct cause of the rotation (sort of a spinning) of the axis of the earth.
wich occurs every 20 000 years or so.

but independence day wasn't all that bad.
in the beginning...

but common' !
hacking an ALIEN compueter with an APPLE labtop
And blowing a nuke into the mother vessle.
solved everything ???

don't know if people realize it but by destroying that mother vessle, the other "smaller sousers" had no shield anymore. that's all,
for the rest they all operate perfectly.
with masslaser canon , with smaller alien vessle

And what happend?
only the ufo in newyork (?) was destroyed.

Damm theire are only a few 100 other ufo's left on the rest of the world.

There are many theories.

I'm not sure how the axial orientation of the earth would have that much of an effect. Unless the magnetic poles shifted. Is that what you mean Beany?
Changes in the ocean current are a good theory. Meteors, solar activity and volcanic eruptions are others.

In Independence day the part where it was explained how the laptop was able to connect with the alien vessel (compatible technology) was cut from the movie (I suppose they thought action was more important than plausbility) but included in the video release. Destroying the mothership only dissabled the shields and therefore allowed contemporary weapons from penetrating and destroying the samaller vessels. I think ID4 was a brilliant movie, and made me proud to be an AMERICAN.... hey I'm Australian, what am I thinking.... it's all that American propaganda.... it's finally getting to me..... (but seriously, it cant be just me, it couldnt have been that bad, it was a box office hit around the world.) I must point out though, that at the end of the movie, that must have been the longest lasting cigar in the history of the world.

This movie -- The Day After Tomorrow -- being different: does this mean that the whole world is in danger, and the whole world is gonna save it?
In many disaster movies i've seen the world in danger, but only the Americans were playing heroes and saving the day, while the rest of the world was screaming - usually only shown on a television screen in an American family living room. With the family hiding under the table, possibly.

I think that mainly new york will be in the spotlight.

the other countries are being shown to (like india and france) but the majority of the film will be america-based

Actually its not really an 'America saves the universe' type of movie at all. It puts the US government to shame and pretty much portrays them as ignorant to the environment. Forget this guy did the worst movie of all time. He seems to have redeemed himself a bit. I will try not to spoil it any more for those who haven't seen it yet.

Not the orientation is changed..

Euh how i'm going to explain this

The axis of the earth is simply an imagnary line that goes from 1 pole true the middle of the aerth true the other pole. (or something like that)
now this axis isn't a strait line . So not in a perfectly vertical position like the letter "I" but its has a small angle like the letter " I " in italics.
now this axis doest stand still eiter. It has its own rotation itself too!
imagian to hold 1 end of the axis in your hand .Then the upper end of this axis will do a circular movement .
like these artists who have a ceramic plate ballancing in a stick in the circus. these sticks have somewhat the same movement.
This happens somewhat everery 20.000 years.(educated gess of the scientists)

if this axis rotates ->the angle of the sun changes in the same location. its like if the equesior (spelling?)(that goes true africa , amazones etc..) will move downwards.
the artics area wil move also somewhere into the region of europe..
and whe got another ice age
voila

I don't think what you describe is possible Mr. Bean.

Allthough....

The reversal of the magnetic north and south has happened a few times. Your circus plate analogy. I like that. Are you talking about the spinning of the earth's core there? Maybe that would cause the effect you describe. As the shift occurs, i.e. magnetic north and south change places, severe weather changes could occur. Nobody knows how long the process takes either....

The axis of rotation of the planet has never shifted as far as I know. Its always been about 23 degrees off from totally straight up and down. Its the very reason we have seasons.

there are lot's of theories ofcours.
but the thing I wanted to explain
can be found on this link: The Earth's Shifting Axis

Another theory is that the whole earths plate. = every singele plate on the surface of the earth is moving at the same time, because underneath it's a liquit. (like a bearing)

something else: i read somewere , the earth has a very big mark. it's the place weer 2 tectonic plates come to ghetter (or go away from each other)
most of these borderlines lies under water.
once in a while i don't know exicly, 100.000 years (?)
this "border" opens . all the water goes true this rift. and comes back out of it in the form of steam.
this way the chemical components changes in the seawater.
this would explain a radical change in samples scientist found in earlier seawater analasis.
but that would be quit a wonder if that would happen )
finding Nemo will be another harsh task i think

Cheers for the link.

I wish I could get the idea of what he's on about from a shortened version, not having to order the book. Still, I may do.

womble, u may have to wait for another disaster movie for the explanation & then have facts butchered half an hour into the movie.
