I mean they are pretty broken arent they?
Let one of those buggers loose in the orc camps south of the orc well. It took out 3-4 elite orc chiefs and 10-15 elite crossbow orcs/elite orcs while I watched from a distance. Good for XP, but not much fun playing.

Scorpion traps are like Mind Twist and Ancesteral Recall in Magic the Gathering. they are broken.

Broken

Let's say unbalanced, overpowered, spoiling the fun - but a good last resort in a real pinch!

When I played and beat DD I never even bought that skill. Kept hearing about how powerful it was on the forum...so second time around I tried it out!

They really should have been toned down a lot...you can kill armys with just a couple of them. At least they had a mind of their own...

I only had one - my Scuddly was under Aura of Command - followed me around as a faithful companion, so I shut my eyes, when she had fun with rabbits or chicken. I kept her as a pet... the only thing I had to criticize about her design was this: I couldn't dress her up with a pink ribbon.

Scuddly deprived me of XP points, when she landed the last killing blow, but I didn't mind, as she did the main work. Alas... the Tree killed her and I swore, never to take another scorpion - to keep her as unique in my memory.
Without our bond, due to Aura of Command, I would have received full XP, but our relationship would have been a very short one.

I wouldn't like without them. I would surely get frustrated and stop playing, especially since I wouldn't know the weaknessess of the monsters without looking into the Forum.

I'm glad they are there, although I must admit that they seem a bit "overpowered" to me.

You know they are just a good example of how the programmers choose that the player is in control and not the computer. I read the handbook and one of the programmers said " We dont force the player to do what they want,we just give them an option" and this is one of the best aspects of the game.

You can shoose whether to play DD the easy way or the hard way.

I played a rogue using death scorpions and i would find it a bit difficult without them, not impossible but difficult.

(Thats what i am going to do next time, try and survive without them).

[color:"red"] I never used them because a friend of mine told me not to, that they would spoil the game, so I never used them [/color]

I think if you're playing the game through for the first time they come in very handy if you haven't worked out good strategies for defeating really powerful monsters. Before I joined the forums here I had no idea about strategies and game mechanics so I always used death scorpions, but now I don't have to use them as much.

Well, I've never used Scorpion Traps. Never saw any need for them as I never met anything in the Game that I couldnn't Kill myself. The question I have on the Scorpion Traps is: Are they "Selective" in what/Whom they will Attack/Kill?
I mean, suppose You let a few Loose in a CITY--Will they attack/kill everyone or are they LIMITED to only the killing of MONSTERS?

They use the same hostility setting that you have. So unless you're an evil [nocando], you'll be fine in a town.

I do not See a "Hostility" Setting for My Char. Where is this Selected?
And What is [ nocando}?
Now in Beyond Divinity there was a "Selectable" setting for both Chars -Either 'Agressive" or "Normal" but I do not see that in Divine Divinity.
I had thought to just unleash about half dozen of them In Verdistis and "See" what happened. Guess NOTHING huh?

You guys are missing the point. If you're a character who wants to play fair death scorpion IS NOT AN OPTION. The imbalance ELIMINATES them from the game. All these arguments that the player is completely in charge and can play any way he wants simply dont hold up. I'd much rather have a balanced death scorpion so i could use them with good conscience, wouldn't you?

I say give us a balance patch, more important than fixing some small bug imo.

HandEFood meant scorpions would take on your own alignment. They will only attack creatures that are hostile towards you.
Using a statuette can change your alignments temporarily (ie spiders are friendly with orcs), but there is no adjustable setting.

'Nocando' is the censor feature in the forum software, preventing swearing in public posts and the proper spelling of '[nocando] sword'.

I'm 61 and chose to use scorpion traps because they leveled the playing field.
I couldn't have taken out the orcs both south and se of Rivertown without them.
I've just discovered this forum and will probably be asking questions a lot.
This is my first time through. The balance is in the player's hands---release
one and it attacks enemies; release as many as you have and they attack enemies
only too well. One helps : more kills!
If the player wants it harder just don't use them. Occams Razor.

if you really want to spoil the fun just get about 500 of them and have aura of command make 5 use the aura on them so they will stay with you and kill all around you and just open them all up and wait 5 mins and then go and pick up the items they dropped and all is good Spoiler : This is very boring so dont do it unless you are in the wasteland and just want exp. to get alittle stronger to those damn gargoyles and the evil ppl
