Thanks for the Philosopher/Merchant tip Kiya ... at the moment Ive shifted from the Test 3 dungeon to the Battlefields to pump up to another level (the BFs are more relaxing - less strain on the brain ... ).
My wife says I never listen to what she is saying.
At least, I think that's what she said...

Well. I spoke to the Philospher, who wanted to know the answer.
I got the answer. But the philospher kept saying I didn't know either. Bad. Mad.
I never found anything to do in the dreaming imp place.
I found myself up at level 4, suddenly and surprisingly, it was all over in a few quick moves ... I opened a rift to the green pastures of home, and that seems to be the end. <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/disagree.gif" alt="" />
I guess I missed one heck of a lot in these last few stages - stacks of quests not even gotten, let alone not finished. Hordes of locked chests etc. Rooms never even entered... oh my!
Methinks I'll either have to go round Act 4 again, or redo the whole caboodle, or get on with something else. Like, summer ... <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/delight.gif" alt="" />

Philosopher wants the ultimate answer, right? Well the rat in Dreamland gave you the ultimate question... => solution <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/winkwink.gif" alt="" /> hey, it's all about philosophy <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/delight.gif" alt="" /> - do you expect to understand this "science"?
Merchant and lost amulet => Imp gave answer how he hid it. Maybe you have this problem: If you click on the imp, the dialogue box states 1 number and nothing after it (no speech option). click on this 2 x and then the answer will follow. Kiya

Oh dear. I think I've boobed pretty badly all thru this game ... I must have killed the rat (tho I remember the '1...' answer from the Imp somewhere, so maybe I did talk to him OK but not enough).
Anyway, as I said, I suddenly found I'd rifted to Rivelon, finally rid myself of the chain gang, and that was that.
Maybe, when I can summon up the partience, I'll go thru the whole lot again a little wiser ... and maybe next time I'll wait for a walkthru first so I can see where I went wrong in so many places (I read on this board you can blow up an area in Act 1 ... I never did that either. I did finish with a character Lvl of 33 though - repeated pumping in the BFs. Anyway I could load him in for the next run through? That'd save a lot of effort! <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/ROFL.gif" alt="" />

I never killed the rat (like these animals in RL) - but if you had the phil quest, this should not have made a difference? The rat said this:" <squeak> ultimate question <squeak>. Then the DK suggested to kill this spooky rat => please, check your conversation log? Bravo: Anyway I could load him in for the next run through? Please explain? what do you want to load in?

Typing slip - 'anyway' should have been 'any way (?)'
What I'd like to do is take my wonderful hero, in his present state and level ... and start the game afresh with him in that state instead of a raw, ignorant, untrained rookie. Then I could bash anything and everything with comparative ease and concentrate on where I went wrong last time through (including knocking out important npc's, I suppose! ).
I don't think I could stomach working him up through all those levels again. <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/suspicion.gif" alt="" />
