Opponent
Adversary
Rivals

Enemy is correct though, but is usually associated with extreme rivalry. I hope you're not offended by me telling you this, as you're english is as good as enyone else's <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/winkwink.gif" alt="" /> It's just that you seemed at pains to use a different word.
