Luc, now u're making me want to hit the history books to find out more on Greece vs Turkey. yes, even before football!
yeah, i know about what they did to the cathedral that Emperor Constantine (my father's name) built. now it's a mosque. but i recalled they did allow the Pope to visit it.
Jan The Cathedral was built at first by Constantine and when it got burned rebuilted by Ioustinianos Emperor. (I don´t know if I spelled his name in English right). The Turks let the Pope visit it as a sightseen. It is not a Christian Cathedral anymore. But this is not the worst thing. After all some nations call their God different than Christians. But it is still God. The worst thing is that in that Cathedral were valuable treasures in Gold and silver. They stole every part of it. They also destroyed the wonderful wall paintings, the stained glass, mosaiks made by thousand small pieces... The Cathedral was a real Greek architectural jewel and sadly most of it is destroyed.
Here are some pictures.
pic 1 pic2 pic3 (scroll down a bit to this to see a pic of the internal) The 4 towers that you can see outside the cathedral in some pics, are made by the Turks after taking the city.
