EMERGENCY EDIT:

LEAVE THE BATTLEFIELD KEYS ALONE. do not use the lost items retrieval method to add them to inventory they don't belong in. it will screw up your battlefield quest log so that when you filter the quests, instead of filtering, the top quest will toggle through several unrelated quests. also, only 2 quests will show up in the quest log and merchants will talk to you about quests given by other merchants. fair warning, not that i provided a means to do this here. also, leave the telpstates.000 file alone, it doesn't do anything noticeable, and hopefully isn't related to the above problem.

========

just for kicks, i tried the instructions to recover lost items, and gave myself the teleporting pyramids back. i noticed that they show up labeled as "ancient pyramid" rather than "teleporter stone" and don't seem to work.

is this because they just can't
or does it have something to do with the file being from an earlier save game?

in the file structure under the savegames, i noticed a file named: telpstates.000

does this file determine the state of the teleporter stones (functional or not) because if it does, one might copy it from a previous act savegame where you did work, into the savegame that i am currently working on in the open battlefields (act 5)

since i really don't feel like running all over creation in the battlefields, i'm going to try and get back functional pyramids. i find the fact that they were taken away rather sour considering nothing was done in the plot to lose them, and they are extremely useful. i hope that Larian wasn't being shortsighted on this. after all running back and forth is extremely irritating at best.

EDIT

well blast. i only found a partial way around the running. currently i know of no way to make the pyramids work, so if anyone has insight, it would be appreciated. so they sit in my temple. meanwhile, i happened to grab the battlefield keys out of my inventory just for kicks. that activated the icon for entering or leaving the battlefields. i was in the battlefield when doing this process. however some things should be noted about the keys. while its a good shortcut for leaving the battlefields to return to the temple, from anywhere in the battlefields (it deposits you near the rift you used so that you can return to the trading posts in that battlefield via the rift... USE THE RIFT TO RETURN) clicking the icon to return to the battlefields kept taking me back to the battlefield i was in when i first activated the keys and did the lost item restore process, regardless of which battlefield i was in when i used the icon to leave the battlefields.

in short: if you picked up battlefield keys and had them in a save game, then transfer them via the lost item retrieval process -

you can click the skill icon to leave the battlefield and return to rift temple
you MUST click the correct rift to return to the same battlefield you left.

NOW WITH CAUTION, since I haven't tested this yet: I DO NOT know if doing this resets your quest log, since it appears that the battlefields generate each time you enter them. so you very well may find yourself with quests that are incomplete and useless items from those quests in your inventory because of this. the battlefields may have been set up so that you need to finish the quests first before leaving them. if that is the case, good luck.

i also discovered that the lost item process is a good way for getting some extra items like charms, crystals, holy water, gold, alchemy plants, IFF you had them in the inventory files that you use to complete the process. however it does end up being time consuming if you get greedy.

as to weapons armor and arrows, i don't know because i didn't try it after the mistaken initial transfer of inventory from a game whose items weren't fixed after installing 1.45 patch. but i did discover by mistake that you better make sure that any savegame you are going to pull inventory from has its items corrected per patch 1.45. this means loading that savegame and letting BD notice there's a problem and fixing it, then saving the game again. Otherwise, any items that you do transfer via the lost item retrieval process are likely to be completely goofed up, as i encountered.

I am not going to describe the lost item retrieval process here because of the obvious spoiler capability. If you want to try this you'll have to figure it out on your own/find the instructions for lost item retrieval like i did, here in the forum.

anyway, if anyone, including Larian has a solution, since i would rather spend game time fighting and exploring, not running (as i'm sure others would agree) would they please be forthcoming regarding the re-institution of the teleporter stones? thanks.

EXTRA EDIT

confirmed. the battlefield key is completely useless for shortcutting the distance. as soon as you leave the battlefield, you lose the quests which likely means that you will have a useless item if you retrieve the item and then teleport to the temple before finishing the quest with the merchant. so nix that idea. however, Kiya gracefully suggested (and why i didn't think of this at the time i don't know) that one or more summoning dolls be left out at the merchants so that you can collect stuff and transfer to them until they cannot hold more, then have them drop stuff to make room. since the summoning dolls cannot interact with the merchants, you still have to run to the camp but this way does save you the encumbrance problems.

*sigh* apparently the reason the teleport stones are gone is because of a cut scene that was removed involving the imp returning to take the pyramids because he needed them. of course i think that this might be related to the point in DD where you lose the pyramids and lends some story continuity. .:heh:.
