Well, I recently got myself a Credit Card, and thought about doing the next sensible thing: Online purchasing!
Let me get straight to the point: I've never trusted giving information on the internet, ever. I know that everything is hackable, and I really couldn't afford getting my credit card hacked... I've never actually bought anything online yet in my life.
You see, I want to buy some stuff off of ebay, but it seems like most of the stuff I can only pay for via PayPal, a service which up until now have only heard about.
So here's my question: How safe is PayPal? How do I know that if I give them my credit-card, that they will keep it safe from hackers? I'm asking anyone who might have heard of cases in which someone's card was hacked through paypal.
Also, is there any hidden fees to PayPal (standard, not premium) that I should know about?
Thanks for all info in advance. -Tovi

Paypal is as safe as the next thing that involves credit cards...I've never heard of a fraud though and transactions using Paypal are always safe... I think that there is a subscription fee (a small one) and nothing else apart from that.Paypal is earning money as most Internet companies,by advertising If you really want to make some bids,it is the safest way to do it...You even have insurance in case the seller doesn't send the item or tries to rip you off... Hope I helped.

I deal with paypal often and there are no hidden fees *unless* you receive money from someone with a credit card: you need a premium account to accept the credit card payments. If you trully want to read about the bad aspects of paypal, go to www.paypalsucks.com , yet as far as I can see, those people have too much time on their hands: Postal Money Orders cost 3.50 CND each and take one week to get to their destination.

Tovi,
I've used PayPal for several years now and e-bay was the reason I joined. I was selling a lot of stuff a couple of years ago so it worked like a charm. Not only do I use PayPal, but I do a lot of buying on the web because I'm disabled (home-bound) and can't get out to run errands and stuff like that. I'm fairly careful of where I use my credit card info. I don't just buy things from any site. So, I'm a bit cautious from that point of view. But for the most part, online purchasing is quite safe.

Tovi, a couple of things to remember:
1) Paypal is good and safe 2) Phishing is running rampant 3) Never ever respond to an email from anyone asking you to go to there site and "Please up date our records by entering your details" as most of the time the emails are "Phishing" i.o.w. they have a legit looking URL but this URL is then invisibly redirected to another site, of no interest to you, but of GREAT interest to the Cracker(Phisher) who then happily goes of with your details.
4) if in doubt go to the companies real website and contact the support staff and ask (by forwarding the received email to them) if this is from them
5) Always always becarefull of pixelated messages

Everything Mia just said is true but beware of the awful support. This is so important that I will repeat it: beware of the awful support. Paypal support is the worst I've ever seen so be careful and you wouldn't need to contact them. Not only it's slow but you usually get an automated message as an answer which rarely answers your question. Though with 200 ebay auctions I never had to email paypal.

I got several phishing e-mails , which I could easily identify, because I have NEVER used a thing like PayPal so far. I reported these false mails to the company (securing I wasn't led to another wrong page ) and they reported back to me that I was right. Never got any phishing mails so far again, at least with PayPal.
What I got are phishing mails about Visa cards, and recently the very first e-mail that managed to kill my Pegasus Mail app : A fraud mail about Citibank. It's astonishing, because NEVER has an e-mail brought my beloved Pegasus Mail to fall before !
