I found a nice necklace and had to identify it. Later in the game It turned red and required identify level 1 (again) to see its properties. I had my DK unlearn shield blocking, take 1 point in identify, then RE-identify the necklace.

IT WAS A DIFFERANT ONE!!!! The stats completely changed!

Now I unlearned the identify skill and went back to shield blocking. The necklace later in the game again became unidentified. Did the same as above and it went to another differant necklace. Now must I do this until I get the right one then keep points in identify permamently? Will a merchant identification be permament? What am I missing?

Thanks,
RY

Once identified, items should remain that way, regardless of the method.

I identified many other items since, though all at merchants instead of using the skill. I had no problems with any of them. This necklace was really strange. I took it off, and the description then was completely wrong. It turned into an unmagical item, and if I put the mouse over it, it read glove or shoe. It never re-gained its properties, so I got rid of it. Sad to see such a bug in a great game.

I also got an unidentified object that had the picture of a hat but the title of "Rope". I got it identified by a merchant, and it became a hat with nice properties.

But you can notice that some object change or lose their name when you pass from one act to another, at least it was when i did play the game

Alot of weapons were like that, and for example i remember a huge flower that i did put in my inventory stayed with same picture but lost his name and was called object #xyzv in the next act

I had this happen with my gem bag. I switched acts and it became unidentified. When I did ID it, it went back to normal, I could still use it while it was unID but it would show up in the trade window like a normal item.

Set and unique items have their names changed on act change, but the stats remain the same.

I had that before, if I didn't know you would only find one in the whole game I would have most likely sold it. <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/biggrin.gif" alt="" />
