The thing with KotOR is that it really got me involved. You actually cared about the characters (Even if that care was the irritation of Carth :P) I really got into it. In ways PS:T did the same thing, having a set group and a main character with a set history allows a deeper plot, at the sacrafice of a bit of freedom. I think this is why people felt it had a "console" feel because this type of plot device is very much part of the console RPG canon. The game could have been improved in some ways, sure, I think thank can be said of any game. But I loved what I got and boy am I looking forward to KotOR 2

"The Force shall set me free", actually. Yes, I can actually recite both the Sith and the Jedi Codes at this point, not to mention I can quote a fair number of choice lines from the NPCs (by memory). *waves "Geek" flag proudly*

Damn you..... Thou art a bigger geek than I!

Chop: Excellent points there. I'm glad the game follows the D20 game closely and its STILL fun! I can't imagine doing that with D+D somehow. IMO of course.

Finished the game once as a LS soldier/consular. Now playing as a DS scout/sentinel. The DS is a mixed bag. I hate some of the things I have to do to keep my DS points and rep but love some of the others. Giving some people exactly what they deserve is cool at times.

Just glad I won't have to sit through that LS ending again.....

"Hurrah! We saved the universe yet again! Tally ho chaps! Off for tea and medals then, what?" .....sickening.

I want the bad guys to win sometimes....

Fact: the DS ending is cooler than the LS ending in KotOR.

And the scary thing is that I can quote the whole DS ending cutscene from memory. Would be spoilers to people who haven't played it, though. *grins* But yes, it's certainly different. Few games nowadays can boast of having multiple endings.

Vampire: The Masquerade - Redemption had 3 endings!

Jedi Academy had 2 endings too.

And it was released quite some time ago.

Granted. Which is why I said "few games nowadays..."

If you narrow the field the last couple of years, with respect, this becomes a self-fulfilling statement, since very few RPGs are being released. How many years will you allow for comparison's sake?

Actually multi-endings is not always found in RPGs. Jedi Academy had a customizable avatar and an RPG-ish skill system yet it was an action game.

But to re-state your argument, I'd say that very few PC games are being released, comparing to the console game-flood.

I'd agree. That's why I have to wonder whether limiting the field of view to just a couple of years is really a fair means to measure this game feature--assuming it's of value to all. (Personally, I'm less concerned about multiple endings than I am about having many different ways to get there. That's why I prefer the extremely different good/evil progression of Troika's Fallout games and Arcanum to a common ending.)

I don't disagree with that, and I'm not touting it as the be-all, end-all feature of KotOR. *shrugs* I simply view it as another plus.

Certainly, and my remarks weren't meant to say yours were incorrect. It's simply a different point of view.

Sorry to grave-dig, but I recently picked up KOTOR for my Xbox (yes, I now have a job and already found out how quickly a weeks salary can fade ). I start to see why Winterfox was so excited about even if I haven't gotten of Taris!

Well, I am ready to forgive NWN to Bioware, now. KOTOR is trully the next Baldur's Gate.

Thanks everyone, especially Mandrake, for reccomending it to me.

So... Is there a cult or something? And do we sacrifice Star Trek fans to the gods of Bioware or something? I need to buy a black cloak then.

The KotOR forum on biowares site is where the cult meets. B.Y.O Trekkie. Light sabres not permitted in the temple.

For Xbox owners out there, KotOR was just released as a Platinum Hit.

Actually a couple of months ago it was 30$ Can for PC. Should be less now. I don't see why you shouldn't buy it in store: believe me, Spick, if I tell you that buying older games on Ebay or in store is the same price. After all, some sellers charge outrageous shipping.

Ok, I know that this thread has been left for a while now but I have a few things to say about this game and some questions to ask (I hope you don't mind).
I've tried and tried to find BG2 because I really want to know this game but my effort came to no avail. Instead I found SW KotOR and decided to give it a shot. I must say that I love the game.

Cleglaw, you should really try this game (if you haven't, that is). KotOR is no NWN! It has long conversations, but they're interesting and involving. In NWN conversations are long and boring and annoying (but this is just my personal opinion, no offence to NWN fans). Combat is a ton of fun! There are some really cool feats you can choose to help you in combat. And the best thing is the game is quite simple to play. The interface and everything is very intuitive. Everything about this game feels right.

Winterfox, where can I find your fanfic? I tried your FF.net profile link but I couldn't find any of your work. I also have a little problem with the game. Hope you (or maybe DATD) could help. See, I've been playing this Jedi Guardian/Soldier character and have finished all the quests on Taris and Dantooine. He's level 8 soldier (& level 3 jedi)and seems to have stopped leveling up as a soldier ( He can't go beyond lvl 8 soldier). Is this a bug or something? Or is it intentional? I'd really appreciate your help, thanks.

Btw, I like Carth.
